I deleted the third row seat belts. Now I have two more tie down points but I'm going to put a platform in back so that is a moot point for me.
The top seat bolts could be helpful, but they are a tapered design. I'm off to Ace tomorrow ro see what I can fit.

I removed the top fitting and cut the webbing off and the webbing to the bottom anchor bolt.

The belt just retracted into the roller mechanism.

It looks a lot cleaner!

if I do this to mine, I'd like to find a way to remove belt retracting reels without damaging it, in case I want to reinstall the belts. I suspect I can just pop off the side trim panels and remove a bolt to get them off. Hmm, maybe a good project for the weekend.

The side panels come off with a healthy pull once you remove the seat belt mounting bolts and any other bolts that you have going through the panels. The whole inertia reel and belt mechanism can then be removed by undoing a single bolt on each if my memory is correct. While every other bolt in the cruiser is metric, the seat belt mounting bolts are 7/16 unf. I sourced from eBay a couple of correctly sized eye bolts used for race car harness mounts, and they fit and work a treat. YMMV,. Good luck, Tony

That is likely a SAE thread instead of metric, I think due to US regulations on safety equipment that have been adopted worldwide. 7/16-20 IIRC. Also I’m pretty sure the majority of it isn’t threaded, just the end to avoid cross-threading on such an important bolt.

On my 80 I installed eye bolts from Simpson racing (I think) to use as an upper hammock anchor if needed.

Yes, it is 7/16" x 20 thread, standard hardware store fine thread stuff. I have also pulled out my rear belts, here's what I ended up with:

I went with (IIRC) 2" long bolts, and I cut some spacers about an inch long out of a scrap of 1/2" EMT. I painted the bolt heads and washers black, here's the tie downs I used:

Amazon product ASIN B01CGXSNC0
I did have to open up the holes just a tiny bit. I also snaked a piece of #14 black wire through the mount, you can barely see it in the photo. It keeps the buckle from rattling in the mount. They do work great, I've used them a couple of times.

Hi! By any chance do you still have the seatbelt that you removed? I am missing the plastic seatbelt retractor cover. Thanks
