2007 LX470 in sig... Has high miles, and is running like a top.

one thing I'm trying to trouble shoot is a roar from zero to 10mph. It gets louder with RPM, which makes me think the fan clutch is locked and continues to be locked.

My question is, will this hurt my engine besides a drop in mileage? has anyone else heard of a locked up fan clutch in a LC? the fan clutch appears to be a 70 dollar part, but installation looks to be a pain in the ass.

I searched a ton and didn't really see it described. Thanks!

Really loud and then goes away after 10 mph?

I think after 10 mph my engine shifts to 2nd, then 3rd, and the rpm drops. a fan spinning at 3k rpm while going 10 mph will be really loud.

Correct, but a locked up fan is very noticeable at all speeds. My fan can be loud at low speed.

At 260k miles, it's done. Get another one. My experience is they die between 150-200k

ordered from amazon. will tackle on Sunday... Also, I looked at the fan on my 01 LC. it has a blue backing plate. Wondering if it was already replaced?

1 banana?

...just another data point here. I found this job to be technically a very straightforward job... if you have the right tools that is. I've done quite a few projects on my truck over the years, but this one I almost gave up on. I ended up buying 3 different sets of wrenches of different types to get to the bolts. At least on my LX there wasn't much room to work there, and the bolts were on pretty darn tight ('06 with no rust issues.)

Perhaps you too will be a Hundy ninja and get this done in 15 minutes, while drinking beer and watching ESPN. I know I couldn't.

I have a good mechanic 1 mile away. If the s*** hits the fan, I'll hit em up on monday

OEM or AISIN only. I replaced my locked up fan clutch with an AISIN. Stay away from other brands. While you are there, check the condition of the idler and tensioner pulleys.

Just did this a few weeks ago. Replaced it with a Aisin off Amazon (like 80 bucks). It is fairly easy to do and amazing how quiet my truck is after.....I don't sound like a Cessna 172 going down my street.

ordered an Asin on amazon today. will be here on Saturday.

I just did mine, it was simple. but i also had the radiator out, and was doing the timing belt and fan bracket. so i had a little extra room

Part arriving today. Looked at the fan bolts and they look to be a bit rounded... Like it was worked on recently. My guess when the timing belt was replaced. Fan does not freely spin after shutdown, which is usually a sign that it's still good, or that it stays locked up. Before leaving town I got the check engine light and the Vsc light. Ran to autozone for code read: bank 2 #2 o2 sensor is bad. Jumped on Amazon and ordered that part as well. I hate a check engine light!!!

^ suggestion especially if you travel remote backcountry: Get a code reader, Scan Gauge, whatever and have the codes with you. In remote Nevada apart of a recent trip I had the not-so-seldom coil pack code and associated engine misfire. Having the Scan Gauge and the list of codes (and cylinder/plug positions) made the diagnosis and repair very efficient ...
