i removed the thermostat on my 89 fj62. While I was waiting for the new one frome the dealer I forgot how it goes back in. i have a haynes manual, but all it says is remember the position it was in. well i dont.please help
 
did you get the upper(rubber) gasket? if so it will only make sense one way.

wish I could explain it but without one in my hand I can't. I recall the taller part goes up

Install the t-stat spring side down. And as mentioned don't forget to replace the round gasket which sits on top of the t-stat. While I'm at it, I also like to change the 4 t-stat housing bolts if they're showing rust.
 
I guess I need to find out what t-stat temp my 1HZ has. Always nice to have spares.

Spring side down, got it. Does it mater which way the it goes in. like which way the "bridge" on top is pointing. The housing bolts look fine. I bought the paper and rubber gaskets. The rubber one was all fubar. thanks again.
