Please explain your plans for these.

I'm going to have to start reading this thread from the beginning for ideas; I'm going to do herbs in boxes on the deck this year but I think we've got too many animals around to do a garden without a massive fence/containment expense.

Just stuff I'm trying to make the most of our short growing season.

Google "cold frames" you will find more info than I could post here.

I'll start some greens inside and plant them in the cold frames in a couple of weeks. It should give me salads much earlier.

Later in the spring I'll use them to harden off stuff we get from the home store before we plant it. They ship plants up from California green houses and put them right out for sale. Here in the mountains if you plant them straight into the garden your success rate is about 50%. If I harden plants off in cold frames for a few days they should do much better. I'll also harden off stuff I start in the house.

The way I built the frames I can add sections to make them taller for larger plants.
 
The rabbits cleaned me out, except for the zucchinis that I planted. Boy am I sick of fried zucchini, boiled zucchini, zucchini in chakalaka sauce, zucchini in stir fry etc. Note to myself - never ever plant more than 2 zucchini plants! :doh:
 
Have you tried parmesan dusted, oven dried, thinly sliced young zukes?

No have not. Sounds good though, will try it next year. Cannot look at another zucchini this year, even the kangaroos are sick of them. :rolleyes:
 
Got peas and swiss chard planted yesterday. garlic is coming up like crazy.
 
I just planted out my tomatoes yesterday.

Which virtually guarantees a massive hailstorm within the next few days...

Really harsh Winter that won't let go in my area. Last year I planted my tomatoes and peppers in the ground on April 8th. I still have snow on the ground today. My seedlings will be a month old tomorrow.

We have more going in soon. We grow 7 different varieties for our hot sauce Co. Can't get warm soon enough.

We are getting ready to plant the garden. I thought I'd start a thread for everyone to share pictures of their garden and ideas and tips.

If the weather cooperates we will have all the beds full for the first time this year. Last year we only planted 80% and still had plenty of fresh veggies. We use raised beds with a 80/20 compost/soil mix and plant intensively.

I'm also expanding to add a herb garden, right now I have on the list;
Rosemary
Basil
Thyme
Parsley
Cilantro

Any other ideas on herbs I should plant?

For vegetables it will kind of depend on what we can find in the way of organic seeds. For sure beets, Spressomon would probably stop talking to me if I didn't raise any of them.

Also;
Chard
Carrots
Potatoes, if I can find organic seed
Onions
Spinach
Tomatoes

I'll also interplant everything with some cool weather / short maturity stuff like lettuce and radishes. They should be up and out of the ground before they crowd the main crops.

I'll post some pictures after I till in some fresh compost.

For seeds--Victory Garden--they preserve heirloom seeds from all over
Potatoes--Potato Garden--They are reasonably priced, and will ship almost anywhere--plus they have a great cust service ethic. (their certified seed tubers will grow-used them for the last 4 yrs-never failed)
Have you seen the John Jeavons book on "How To Grow More Vegetables"? Don't need to plant/harvest stuff like rads/lettuce before main crops---they have a different root system--you can grow together.
 
Me and the girls planted all my peppers yesterday. One of the fun things about having kids is teaching them how to do things.

Planted 3 Tai Chili plants
2 Poblano
1 cayenne
1 Pepperoncini chili
1 Anaheim chili
1 jalapeno

Then we planted some sweet basil and cilantro and scallions in another bed. Finally go the drip irrigation back working again so I don't have to worry about watering daily. I'm looking forward to some fresh hot pepper vinager.

Canning, we ordered a pressure canner today.
Anybody know how to freeze chard?
Chard can't be that much different than Collards or Mustard--Harvest, wash a couple of times, blanch in boiling water 3 minutes-immediately cool, then pack up in freezer bags.
