I did it! I finished getting the PHH off! After reading all your posts I realized I just wasn't look at my tools the right way. I came home from work, and within 5 minutes I ahd succeeded in doing what I spent all day Saturday trying to do. Here is the ultimate PHH removal tool kit:

So, the bent nose pliers are for removing the cotter pin clamp. First, insert the tip of one side in to the hole in the cotter pin, then twist the pin to an angle where you can get a little leverage. Push/pull the pin out of the clamp. The 6" vince grips are for use on the clamp closest to the engine. I tightened them to about a 1/4 inch gap, maybe smaller, then Positioned the thumb screw handle against the firewall with the jaws on either side of the ears of the clamp. Using the firewall to press against I closed the pliers on to the clamp. Once closed I twisted them down to a point I could easily grab on to them. I grabbed them with a better pair of pliers, more leverage, and pulled them off. The linoleum knife is perfect for cutting the hose as the sharp edge is inside the curve, giving a great point for cutting the hose. I can't believe I didn't think of this on Saturday!! 5 stinkin' minutes to do what I wasted half the day on!

Thanks everybody for your help and suggestions! Now I am going to order the replacement hose and clamps, then go out and put my intake plenum back on. Yes, I was desparate and tried to come in from the top. Lesson learned.

Might I suggest a cotter pin tool from Craftsman. I bought one of these 30 years ago for doing brake jobs where I needed a way to pull cotter pins on most any front brake reline on most every rear wheel drive car. I see them still for sale at Sears.

You can undo one of those clamps and pull the pin out in very short order with one of these. I have used it a lot in my 1FZFE overhaul.

A long bent nose plier and long needle nose vise grip is also available that's also a great help. Also, don't forget a long flat head screwdriver.

Sounds cool. I did a search and couldn't find an example on the web, or at Sears online. Do you have a pic?

Sounds like this thread could become a quicklist of everybodies favorite PHH tool.
