pussy....

I grilled 24oz dry aged bone in ribeyes and prime filets this weekend......i shoved a path through 1' of snow to get to the grill......

And that took about 15 minutes of your attention and the grill was burning as hot as you could get it vs. babysitting a smoker and keeping the temperature within a 25 F° range for 8 hours...I'm not sure my smoker is even capable of doing it at 20°F ambient with a 10-20mph cold wind.

I don't mind being outside in the cold. I like it actually, I spend a s***load of time playing in the snow. I grill all winter no problem.

BBQ will resume about a month from now...

I'm gonna try some crock pot BBQ within the next day.

Crock Pot BBQ
Boston butt
Onion
Water
Salt and pepper
Favorite BBQ sauce

Slice up onion and place in bottom of crock pot to prevent sticking. Place Boston butt in crock pot. Pour 1 or 2 cups w/ salt and pepper in there. Cook on low 12-14 hours. Drain off excess fluids and tear apart while removing fat. Pour in favorite BBQ sauce and cook a bit more(1-3 hours). And eat.

Another variation is to put some vinegar in there with or instead of water. I might experiment later. Water for now.

Simple and supposed to be pretty damned good. I've never done it before so if anyone has any suggestions, let me know. I'll of course update.

I'm gonna use the thicker Welcome To The Official Home of Bone Suckin' Sauce! unless someone has any other suggestions.
We need an Ultimate BBQ Sauce thread. Trollhole alluded to it
...Sauces will come in another post....
but nothin'.

:eek::eek::eek:

Heresy! Abomination!

:flipoff2:

Actually my late mother in law used to make a excellent crock pot "BBQ" pork. You miss the real smoke flavor but it's still good meat. I don't think it much matters what you cook it in, it will be good regardless. The secret is too cook it slooooooowly for a loooong time. Let us know how it turns out.

I have a picture on my cellphone of the smoker surrounded by piles of snow, smoking away happily; I tried to email it to myself to post here but my cellphone service sucks.

I did a Boston butt, it was the last weekend in March, it took nearly 11 hours because it was cold and windy and I had a hard time keeping the smoker temperature up. The next day it snowed a foot! It was delicious though...

I did something similar a couple weeks ago and it came out great.

rather than water (bland) I diluted some bbq sauce with some chicken broth, some liquid smoke, and added a little vinegar. I added onion as well and a couple cloves of garlic. some whole peppercorns and let it do the crockpot thing for about 10 hours.

Pulled the pork out and it was VERY tender. I ditched the liquid and added some new bbq sauce after shredding the pork.

it was most excellent.

Good stuff... make redneck carnitas. Take the cooked crock pot pork, cut into 1" squares and fry that in butter until crispy on the outside

I've done this recipe, it's pretty good.

Yup. Water is a wee bit bland. Didn't take as long as I thought either...

Put in in last night at 8pm on low, but I have a really hot crock pot(Rival Crock Pot Stoneware Slow Cooker) with only 3 settings(High/Low/Warm) and my wife started to complain at about midnight that the house smelled like a highway BBQ grease pit. I set it down to warm. Woke up at 7am this morning and pulled it out. It was nice and tender and fell off the bone so 11 hours. Shredded it with 2 forks and popped it back in the crock pot with BBQ sauce and it's going strong right now. Tastes awesome too.:)

I'm gonna try your recipe next time, Doug. Water is kinda bland even with the salt and pepper I put in. One could probably do without the onion too.

I think the technical term for this style is... New York City BBQ...
You make me feel like a yankee.:crybaby:
But I did find it on a "Southern Cooking" website.:flipoff2:
