Looks like a fantastic trip and great pics to boot! I made a trip to Costa Rica last month, just after the rainy season ended. Very beautiful country and quite a few diesel Cruisers. The people I met were very friendly and I turned $10US into $80 at the hotel casino. Though mine was a whirlwind trip with minimum ground time, here's my only pic courtesy of the local "bird watchers" at Juan Santa Maria Internantional Airport:

I saw that this a.m. in the artistic thread. Plenty times I thought about driving through when we passed it but my problem is I stay in Sicily to the last minute before I need to leave. How was it? I don't see any activity when we pass.
THere's a nature trail and then a bunch of dirt roads all through the WMA. It's nothing major, but there is a lot of wildlife to be seen. Some WMA's have great hunting, fishing and you can also catch crawfish or whatever else. And they're state owned so it's your property to explore and take advantage of.

Sounds like a good spot. You can call DWF and they will mail you large 2x3 foot maps of any WMA for free. I used to hunt Sherben, Thisaway, Wax, Delta, Basin, and a few others when I was younger and there were not as many hunters. There is also a awesome spot for wood ducks behind the airport in Laff. called lake Sharlo. It is privately owned but the owner lets anyone hunt or fish. DWF sets crawfish traps back there for research. There are also some first generation cypress trees that are at least 13 feet in diameter. No s**t. The biggest I have seen in my life, in person or pictures.
Yep, LDWF lands are a good place to get a little dirt time. Sherburne is one I want to go check out. I have the map of Kisatchie too and want to go as far into it as I can.
I went to the range at Sherburne last month to try out a new shotgun. After I was done I followed the dirt road that runs at the bottom of the levee for a couple of miles. It had been raining so I had some fun splashing in the puddles and such. There were trails headed off the road everywhere, but I didnt want to go down any of them because I'm sure it's off limits. They did have a nice parking lot with bathrooms at the head of a nature trail a little ways before you get to the range.
What about a camping area?
Maybe we could go exploring after the next club meeting or meet up one Saturday morning.
I did see an area where there were permanent camps. I know they allow camping somewhere in there, because I've had friends who hunt there bring trailers.
I'm all for a Saturday morning get-together. I have nice back road country drive route that we could take from New Iberia to Butte La Rose and check out the Indian Bayou area. From there we could work over to Sherburne. We could all actually meet in St. Martinville and head out from there. The ride in to SM from Youngsville/Broussard/Lafayette would be nice going down Terrace Hwy. We could meet up at the cafe across from St. Martin Detours(sp). I love riding down the levee from Coteau Holmes up to the pontoon bridge and crossing over into the basin from there. Go through Butte La Rose to the new visitor center (awesome place - not just for tourists - kids love it). From there, head north a few miles and there are good trails on Indian Bayou. Then take off to Sherburne to explore. Who's in and when?

Thats sounds like a good time Armond, I'm in. I will send out a email this weekend for others that may be interested if we can firm up a day and time. How about next Saturday 29th the day before our meeting? Good way to get some momentum going into the meeting and the April events.
Or after the meeting if y'all want to kill two birds with one stone.
Edit: My motive for this option is that I'll be on vacation with the family through Saturday. But choose the path that's best for everyone though.

The only thing I see with that Marty is that the meeting usually ends at 3:30 or so. Its usually 4 p.m. when I leave and think it would be to late and rushed if we started then. I'm good with either way. I can put some PIAA's on the 80 and light the way if needed
Just do Saturday then and I'll go another day. Don't sweat it.
I'm in for either time, because I'm in at either time!
Just a few shots of the trail rig. I never really got to test it out last time due to the spring problem. The low end torque of the diesel and the detroit locker is a dream come true. I'll photobucket some stuff tomorrow and try and explain the trip.
