I typically don't post on forums, but read a lot. Figured I need to do something to keep some type of diary. So, here we are. I decided to buy an FJ60 to tinker with. The goal is to be a driver, not a show car, but something decently nice. Mainly a hunting vehicle, I bird hunt. I'm not going to do a complete baseline at the moment, want to drive it and see things that I need to make a little better. I will add to the list below. I'll be posting more about the rust stuff when I get to it. I already have a mig welder, so I should be able to do some of this body work. I'll probably post in the body forums and here.
If I start any threads, I'll post them here so everyone can see what was done.
Things that I have already done...
1. new radiator--After I bought it, noticed it some small leaks. --yeah, should have noticed that before, but didn't. The person I bought it from, drove it daily, so didn't have any worries until I saw that.
2. Straightened out the pedal to carb linkage-- After driving it a bit, I thought the secondary wasn't kicking in. Started poking around and noticed the linkage was bent, so it prevent the linkage going far enought to kick in the vacuum for the secondary. yeah, still a dog, but at least the secondary is working.
3. Change out plug Wires
4. Koito lights from CruiserTrash
5. new battery--Working good until it wasn't.
6. Adjusted timing--It has a DUI, but it seemed it was pinging more than it should have on the highway. The previous didn't drive it much on the highway, just going back and forth to work in the city, so I don't think he noticed it.
7. resealled rain gutters
8, Replaced doughnut gasket
Things to do and not any particular order...
1. Headliner
2. rust in tailgate
3. rust in passenger side kick panel and roker--It's mainly surface. for the time being, going to wire wheel it and then spray some encapsulator and primer on it. Then work on this and tailgate in the spring.
4. Thinking about going back to stock on distrib and ignitor if I don't feel confident enough in the DUI--I'm starting to think it advances the timing too much.
5. Carb rebuild
6. Exhaust leak
5. Whatever else comes along.
