So I'm doing a refresh job on my 96 that has been a workhorse for my family.

Last week it just got a new timing belt, water pump, plugs and wires, and antenna.

I just came back from Sam's and she now is riding on some new 285/75r16 Goodyear Duratracs. They look and drive awesome but are rubbing in the tight turns.

Yesterday my favorite UPS guy dropped off a whole new OME 3" suspension and assorted bushings from Wheelers and an entire set-up of Tundra Brakes (new calipers, rotors, and pads) from Rock Auto.

Tomorrow is shop day. By tomorrow afternoon it will no longer rub fenders and will stop like it is supposed to..... And be a little taller....

Then off to get an alignment on Monday.

Still waiting on MOLLE Ballistic cloth seat covers to get here.

Here are some pics.... Before new tires and after. And all the goodies to be added tomorrow.

Looks great!

Do you know what you've done?

You've just set me off looking for a '96 - '98 4Runner is what.

Well... Let me help you out a little.

Here is the finished product.... Well almost finished....

The latest list of maintenance/upgrades:
- radiator
- alternator
- belts
- hoses
- timing belt
- water pump
- valve cover gaskets
- spark plugs
- spark plug wires
- front and rear sway bar bushings
- 3" OME Heavy Lift ( springs, shocks, rear brake line, and coil spacers)
- Tundra Truck Brake upgrade (Powerstop 137L Calipers, drilled and slotted rotors, and Extreme ceramic/carbon fiber pads)
- Diff Drop Kit
- Sway Bar Drop Kit
- 1/4" Wheel Spacers
- 285/75R16 Goodyear Duratracs
- Coverking Ballistic Cloth MOLLE seat covers
- new power antenna mast

Had a little difficulty getting the brakes bled after installing new calipers and brake line but once I figured out the problem......damn! This thing STOPS now like it is supposed to. What a difference just the brakes made.

The 1/4" wheel spacers allowed the 3 spoke split wheels to mount over the 231mm calipers. I have about a 1/8" clearance now and the factory lug nuts fit back on perfectly with plenty of thread bite.
It drives and rides now like a new vehicle.

Going for an alignment in the morning.

Future stuff.
- Ball Joints upper and lower
- replace the rest of the rubber bushings
- rebuild starter contacts
- battery
- DRIVE IT....

This is just awesome. I love posts like this. Bought my '99 new and it has been and continues to be such a great vehicle albeit stock. These trucks are truly fantastic.

What size tires did you have on your 4Runner before you put on the 285/75-16s?

My apologies if you've said this already elsewhere... I looked but didn't see it.

Very nice job my friend.
