The rear vents actually pull air out? Just found that out and thought it was interesting. (5 Viewers)

And air exits through the outside rear vents by the rear side window.

Is that where you spray the cleaning deodorizer when you clean the rear ac? Sorta of like the cowl area by the wipers when you clean the front?

I thought that was what this was attached to, but that doesn't make sense since this is only on one side. I see the vents on the outside you're talking about, but it doesn't seem there's a vent on the inside that goes to them. That's supposed to be a confused guy face.

The air goes in there and out through the headliner vents. It's a recirculating system like any other rear ac/heat in a minivan etc.

Geez. It's like you guys saw a witch or something

The outside vents are just open vents, I'm pretty sure all cars have a version of them (usually hidden). If all windows are closed, when someone slams a door you can feel air burst out. Also if you have recirculation OFF, you'll feel air blasting out of the exterior vents (with the a/c or heat on).

I'm quite curios as to how it works exactly. It seems you're saying there's not duct work that goes to the back from the front, but rather from the rear to the rear. Does that mean there's a condenser in the back too then? To be honest I did notice a water drip in the back when fiddling with this stuff so that would make sense. And so what if I think AC is some sort of witch craft device...is it not? :flipoff2:

Yes, there is an evaporator there. Notice how the D pillar is all gigantic inside on the passenger side? It's got a tube in it

I did not. Chit, I only noticed there was a sub in the back like last week. I'm digging deeper and deeper every week. There's a lot to soak in. There's a ton left to go too. Thanks for the info! I read in the manual yesterday there's something you're supposed to grease everytime you go off road, or in the water. Next on the agenda is pulling the belly plates, greasing everything, and fluid film all the things before the salt hits the roads.

Yes, for vehicles equipped with a separate real Climate Control it has it;s own dedicated and separate system. It's own condensor, drain, etc. That vent is the intake and as others stated the headliner vents are when the rear air comes out.

The outside vents at the D-pillar are just as @oakback said, all cars have them but they are usually hidden in the wheel wells. Old cars didn't need them because they weren't sealed enough, but this helps prevent the ear-pop sensation that you get from some vehicles when you close a door. They probably placed them higher on this rig to prevent water ingress during crossings, and figured might as well show off this bit of function by creating a nice form for them. It's one of my favorite design elements on the 100-series and really makes them identifiable even to laymen.
