1990 hdj81, the hunt is over.
This is the one that was advertised at that Kia dealership in Surrey. Initially I wasnt even going to look at it, as the price was on the high end of my "budget" and none of the extras I wanted. But we were in the neighbourhood, so what the hell.
The :princess: loved it immediately, because it was blue. More silver really, but a definate very light blue tinge to it, quite nice, and very different actually.
It does have the factory f&r lockers, no winch, but a decent looking bumper, rancho lift 2-3" maybe?, bfg all terrains, turbo timer, camping kit with a stove of some kind and sink/bed (gotta figure out how that all works still) a mish mash of stereo equipment that needs sorting out,the bling bling boost gauge and muffler tip, and 65k on the odo..................:hhmm:

But it is pretty clean inside, a little wear on the auto shifter handle and e brake handle. No apparent oil spewage from the turbo (thanks Rob!)
Drives very nice, pretty good power, little bit of black smoke at start up, couldnt tell while driving if it smoked at load.
BeB needs to be done, for peace of mind like Marcin said, as according to the very limited info the dealer had on it, its only been over here a month.

The power antenna seems to be the only thing that doesnt work properly, goes about 1/2 up and then jams and makes ugly noise.

A couple little details, which could be a pain in the ass? only 1 key, and no key fob for the keyless entry.

Anyways, we are pretty happy.

So..heres the pics!

Congradulations Jeff. For pics, why don't you upload them to flickr or photobucket and post the link.

Thanks. My flickr accounts are full, I could always start another one I guess.

I just spoke with Craig, he is selling his yellow 80. Yes, it is the one we all have been dreaming about...

This thing has to stay local and in the club so somebody step up.

If a Frankenstein had a hot sister this would be it!!!

Anybody?!?!

Nice truck Jeff!!! I like the knob to the left of the steering wheel. ;)

you will not even say "Good morning" anymore to the 40 while walking by it...

Be careful though it will get jealous at will try to sabotage the new 80, at least that is my theory on my problems...lol

congrats!!!

Oh, no heated seats. I think thats all that's missing. Now I gotta start asking dumb questions about what do all the buttons n stuff do...like the headlight looking one to the right of the headlight washer button?

And who wants to figure out stereo wiring while I watch and open beer for you?

"ooooh...look at daddy's new truck!"

nice score jeff. looks like that was a good one...hopefully you wont have any issues with it! what did you get em down to if you dont mind my asking?

ive got an oem sombrero grille (95+) if you want. not sure if it'll fit..but its yours if you want it...

welcome to the 80's :flipoff2: congrats!

Actually it's Mommies new truck, she justs let me drive it. It will be 14 more years for that one still, 12 1/2 for the other one.
I suck at bargaining, chiseled them down to an even 15. Wifes happy, thats all that matters right?

Oh if anyone needs me, I'll be at the corner of Boundary & Grandview washing windows. And don't be cheap on the toonies!

They never had keyless entry systems in 1990. Too early. But they have power door locks. So you can buy a fob system from KMS Car parts for 60 bucks that connects to the door control relay with a bunch of wires, not too hard. Took me 3 hrs to install mine on my 1991 80. Then you have two fobs for it. Mine stopped working lately, so I need to troubleshoot it.

They are worth it IMOP.

Congrates on finding a truck!

Good to know, thanks. Now is getting some spare keys going to be a pain in the ass? The one key we do have seems pretty funky looking, I doubt that some lacky at Canadian Tire or other ilk can cut one like it.

Also on the power door locks, when I hit the button on the drivers side to lock it up, it locks everything up except the drivers door. Manually locking it with the key locks everything fine, but God forbid I do anything manually now with all the doodads this baby has!

I also had folded up the rear seats to take a peak back there (found a JVC stereo head unit), now both of the damn things wont lock back down. We had a similar problem with one of the Sienna seats once as well.

Easy to get a key cut at Home Hardware or Canadian tire etc.

The door locks will not lock the drivers door without using the key on the outside. that is a Toyota thing in the early days. Normal.
Basically only the drivers door will lock and unlock the whole vehicle from the outside. You have to do it with the key on the one door. That's why it's such a pain. That's why I put in the keyless remote system.

Call KMS, they have em in stock. If you get stuck I can try and help. Worth every penny. I even put keyless door locks in my BJ60(with door lock solenoids and an alarm).

Might need a little lube on the latches. I like LPS 1 for that kinda thing. Look at the latch and see if the tumbler part has closed over. The hookie thing anyhow :) Do you have third row too?

Good Job , Jeff now you can wheel with the rest of the JDMs get the BEB done and have fun.

The latch is closed over, like its in the locked position. It seems to be well lubed. Hard to see whats going on as the bottom of the seats are all enclosed. I'm not sure if I'm up for ripping it all apart yet.
No third row seats, as far as I know, that was just a North American option? I have the camping kit in the back, which I can't quite figure out either. I think it might be missing some brackets for the other bed panels.

Some other misc. 80 questions;

License plate bolts, 10mm? 6mm (10 mm heads) Both my other cruisers just have holes thru body panels to bolt plates to :)

Is the one washer tank in the engine compartment good for all 3 washer points? windshield obviously, but the headlights and rear window as well?

Another rear seat question. Each rear seat has some kinda tether with a plastic hook on it. The whole assembly tucks into a pocket in the back of the seat. What is it for? To restrain the seats when they are tumbled up?

I'm going yo have a million questions on this thing as the days unfold.

At first it wouldn't redirect me to the album page, so all I got was the pac-man mania thing and the Lopper close up :flipoff2:. But the truck looks good Jeff .

They also had a third row seating option. I think the holes are there to mount the seats. Not 100% on the holes being there but do remember a thread in the Alliance cestion quite some time ago on putting in thrid row seats. I would also guess that the tethers are there to hold the seats in place when they are folded up. Both my mid and rear seats have them and they attach to tether points on the seats in front of them when they are folded in the upright position. Folded flat, they just lock down. I can't remember seeing them in the 80s I looked at. But then again, I didn't start messing with the seats cause I knew the rigs were out of my price range . Nice to look though.:meh:
