I just spoke with Craig, he is selling his yellow 80. Yes, it is the one we all have been dreaming about...

He has had it for sale for about 6 months now I think. Asking around $22,000.00 on Craigs List. I have wheeled with him a few times. The beast is almost unstopable.

3rd row seats were an über rare option in the HDJ81. it was standard on the jdm FJ and FZJ80's just like the US specs. from the research i've found, there arent any oem mounting points on the HDJ's. they'd have to be custom.

by the sounds of it, those tethers probably keep the seat in place while folded. not sure why they'd need it on the 2nd row...? are the straps adjustable?

Hey,

I've had my 81 for a bit over a year, and I think I can answer most of your questions:

Licence plate bolts: I believe 6mm. The spacing is different though, so I only have one holding my plate on. Until I drill another hole in the plate. Its been a year and counting...

Washer fluid resevoir: Yeah, it does headlights and rear window too. One container for everything.

Rear seat strap/hook thingies: When the seats are tumbled forwards, these go to the grab handles at the front of the rear door openings and keep the seats secured. Pretty slick. Also, my rear seats sometimes take a pretty good slam to latch down. Make sure the latches are released first though.

You'll love the 81. Drop me a PM if you're going to be in the Chilliwack area sometime. I'd love to compare notes (and go wheelin')

Ah ya puss - I thought you were buying the Cheetah! :grinpimp:

thanks! Rear seat is now "fixed", it takes a good bit of a thump to lock it down just as you said.

3rd row seats are nice with kids. But if you only have two I think you're fine with the normal seats. I have 3 kids and the 3rd row works pretty good in my 80. I have 91 FJ80 with the 3rd row. You could retrofit in the set up. But it would take some fabn. Good only for kids. Adults can't sit back there. Unless your BoB, no arms no legs....whatever that derogatory thing said..

I have no desire for 3rd row seats, I want the room back there to sleep in. And now with this going to be the family hauler, it will help stop the :princess: from using the 7 seater Sienna as the local taxi.

Speakin of, anyone know anyone who wants to buy a '02 Sienna CE, roof rack, 130something km, regularly serviced at Toyota. Pretty good shape except for a bit of a scrape on passenger rear side when we first got it, she got to close to a column in an u/g garage (did the same thing with the spanky new Tacoma as well ), I'm not sure if I should let her drive the 81 now........

Meh, guess I should start another thread in craiglist or something.

Hey Jeff! Welcome to the diesel crowd, and enjoy your 81. Looks sharp. Lets the mods begin...:-) You know a 3" exhaust, gauges, ceramic coated exhaust manifold and hot/cold side/dump, and boost at a minimum of 12lbs is the 1st place to start...right!

Of course thats after the BEB's are replaced with ACL's...

Thanks. Talked to Ciaran today, will go see him and get the Bearings done in a couple weeks. I was eyeing up an exhaust at Steves this afternoon :)
My boost gauge is all metric, no idea what it means. At least I think its a boost gauge.
