I am looking for an alternative on the way back from CO that doesnt add a whole lot of time but hopefully a view; at least a different part of flat BFE than the one we take to get there.

we have a cabin to stay at just outside the eastern border of Route NF. time will likely not allow us to go as far south as Ourawy, or much west of Big Creek Lakes in Route.
we have to travel to woodlawn IL so AR isnt a possibility; in reality our options are very limited given woodlawn being a set point.

I have never spent any time in Kentucky so I am really looking forward to Red River Gorge. I'll be there for some land manager/development training Thursday-Saturday.
I have a more flexible schedule Saturday afternoon-Tuesday (I have to be back to work on wednesday, so I need to be in Tuscaloosa by Tuesday night)

Laurel River Lake in Daniel Boone National Forest looks like something I need to get some literature on.

I have to go ahead and order a few things to get the trailer back on the road, I thought we were taking the Rogue, but plans changed when I added KY.

Anybody wanna do a light day-ride somewheres Saturday? Stony? Choccolocco? MorrisMtn? Walmarts?
Wanna give the new lift an easy shakedown...
I could even be in for the Skyway Motorway if someone has been wanting to do it...
Something easy, day only. Be headed home by dinner type ride...

@justbecause South through Durango through Farmington NM to Santa Fe is a pretty drive. Santa Fe is loads better than ABQ. That's the route we took to and from Moab.

Wow, just wow. Well at least they are "sorry". If a private entity, utility or municipality would have done that, there wouldn't be enough proctologist in the country to remove the EPA from their backsides, but as luck would have it they happen to be their own boss..... worst of all, no entity to blame and force to pay for what will be a massive clean-up operation and pay restitution to the communities and individuals so you know who will write those checks.....

Well I took door #3 and I will be starting with Alabama Power on Monday. It's a contract job right now but I hope it will turn into something permanent.

Big Ups!
Will you get a discount on your power bill?

Speaking of alabama power, what keeps the plants from melting down in the event of a prolonged power outage or other event that keeps them from filling the cooling the tanks

My guess would be backup generators to power pumps to circulate the coolant.

It isn't a closed system. Short term, yes, new water is brought in (hours) what happens after weeks of no power, no fresh water.

Are these nuclear facilites? If so then to cooling systems are closed. I have been thru 2 nuclear plants looking at their water treatment facilities, once the water has been introduced into the fuel cell area, it can't be just dumped out. So the systems are closed. Occasionally they have to remove and replace, but the removed water is contained. Those systems are just like a car cooing system, so just need to have a pump to run to keep the cooling water moving. They do pull fresh water in for use in the generation process, but it is for boiling to produce steam to drive the generation turbines, the cooling towers then cool that water back down before it is either recycled or bleed off back into the source water system. The towers also act as a sort of water to water intercooler to help bleed of heat from the cooling water as well. The water used in the steam generation process is also run thru treatment equipment as well. So fuel rod cooling is closed, generation water for steam is not.

i kept looking at it today, and it looks like you need to add water continually; i believe i did misunderstand some of how the water is used, there is closed loop water, but it is cooled by fresh water; that does not become radioactive. if left alone, that water will eventually evaporate, and then the "dirty" water will continue to heat, until it blows due to pressure.

Right, but all that is needed is a generator to supply power to the systems that keep things moving the way they should.

Besides that, it is a generation plant, and while what leaves the plant is very high voltage, as long as the first substation is servicable, keeping power to the facility shouldn't be an issue.
