View attachment 900590 Getting back to the subject of snakes I about stepped on this one, I am thinking its and Eastern Diamondback (Godwin?). It was about 2.5' long and never rattled, I grabbed a 12' branch and scooted him off the trail.

that "trail" needs some critical edge restoration, some grooming. it is Uing out and needs to have the stones removed.

So this happened today, 20th in her class, 33 on the ACT, and NC State bound.

Congrats!

My kids would say: dook is puke, Wake is fake, but the team I hate is NC State!

Truth is I don't hate the Woofies too bad, I HATE dook

That's pretty good.

Here is another one for you Godwin. 3 total in the woodpile. I got a good video but can't upload it. I think it's the mommy, daddy, and brother to the one I posted a couple weeks ago.

Another black rat snake. Snakes are solitary so you don't have a family unit in your woodpile. Not to say these snakes are not related just that males and females come together to breed then go there separate ways. Once the female lays the eggs she essentially abandons them. The woodpile over the plastic grate has created some excellent habitat for the snakes and with the numbers you're seeing you likely have a few rodents in there also, or had.

All those rat snakes in your yard, you're a lucky guy :D.

Yeah my yard was DESTROYED by moles the past few years, so hopefully they have cleared most of them out. Not sure how lucky I am to have 5ft rat snakes in my yard with a 4yr old and 1yr old running around :). The one I got the video of was a monster. Thanks again. Rance

Actually having the rat snakes around is good. They feed primarily on rodents and birds. They will not completely remove the rodents from your yard but can reduce the numbers. Rattlesnakes also feed on rodents. In TN you'd have the timber rattlers. So with rat snakes around, fewer rodents thus less rattlesnake food.

A bite from a rat snake nothing to be concerned about.

We went fishing last weekend and didnt catch much of anything. we also had jugs set out, which kept getting the bait eaten.
I rescued one very small catfish from an abandoned jug, and caught another equally small one from the bank.

the lake is over grown with lilies and the owner says he found some "safe" spray that he plans on applying, I am trying to convince him to invest in an aquatic mower, but they start at 3k, and I am not sure that is going to happen.

would adding grass carp (or something else?) cut back on lilies quickly, or will it take months/years?

is there anything I can do (legally) to increase good big fish population, i think the owner would be ok with bass, or cat fish, he never indicated a preference. I think he just wants a lake to fish.

the water is a muddy color, but doesnt seem to have noticeable suspended sediment. I am pretty sure it is a very old manmade lake, dug out from a creek.

I went to where the water flows out, it goes into a wide, shallow, rocky creek, that goes into the warrior. Using google earth I can see that it gets pretty small and eventually cant be seen from sat pictures. Using the road map (that has the whole creek marked) I followed it to the river. where it dumps into the river has been turned into a concrete culvert.

The water flowing out of the pond is crystal clear. and warm.

Catch from somewhere local, keep alive, release in lake, rinse, and repeat.

I'm a little teapot short and stout......

Doctor Who shows back up August 20 something.

Wait what?
