I had a conversation with Christo about why he didn't just use a domestic set of one ton axles instead of piecing together a diamond housing with 105 ends. He wanted it to stay toyota parts (mainly) for the availablilty of parts in south american. Of course, I was jumped on by the typical yoter is better nonsense crowd but I fail to see why a full float 14 bolt rear with a shaved bottom and a dana 60 front couldn't be used when a set of CUCV axles with 4.56 gears and a stock rear detroit from low mileage trucks are only $1,200. Tack on another $500 for new bearings seals, pads and rotors and another $250 for the rear coil and trac bar mounts although a triangulated four link would be a lot better IMO. You can swap the rear to drw from srw to shorten it to 63" and cut the long tube on the front or just run H2 or Hmmw wheels. I guess the wheel speed sensors would be an issues but they could probably be swapped.![]()
Makes sense to me too. That's why I'll never be a true purest. To run 40+" tires... you gotta say 14bolt somewhere...
