Where does it say IFS? Because I see CV... and a birfield is actually a CV... so if that's all there is, then he's not technically wrong in his description.

"but this is a later '97 model with a '98 front end"

Then you are no better than him. Interprettin what he is saying, from his interpretation on what someone else said. He's not saying it's an IFS... in fact he most likely read where some 97's rolled off the assembly line as 80-series after there were already 100-series being made. It's my understanding, however, that these such rigs are the Collector's edition.
He's not correct either way, toyota never made an 80 series with a "98 front end"... in fact, they did the opposite. They made 100-series with hi-pinion solid axles up front, the 105.

I know some guy just told him that and that he has no idea.
I simply took what he said to its logical conclusion, a 98 front end would be IFS.
I know for a fact that there is no 80 series with IFS from the factory.

the 105 has an 80 axle wich is more narrow than the front end on a 100, thats why slee charges out the ass for a SAS its not just "throw an 80 axle on there and line up control arms" its "make a custom width axle from parts" an 80 with a 100 front end would sit wider than what is shown in the pictures.

Yea I just thought about it and the 105 is a solid axle.

It is my understanding a 105 is an 80 chassis with different body and motor mounts but essentially the same chassis. I guess you can put a 100 on an 80 frame (with a V8) and have a 105.

As for slee he did an 80 axle with different axle shafts to work with the 5 lug pattern in the 100.

Just different hubs. That 8" hi-pinion front axle was on more than the 80 and 105. It made it on other model cruisers too. I think 70 and 90 series cruisers got it. AFAIK... it's all the same axle minus the suspension mounts and hubs...

cool. But they're already out there in the rest of the world. He's aware of that.
The blueberry had a diamond axle I believe.

"SAS with Diamond housing using 80 Series Land Cruiser 9.5" rear diff and 80 series front knuckles. Custom chromeoly axle shafts and Newfield Heavy duty birfields."

was it your idea to use a SF rear for a bombproof front end? Because thats the way I understood it when I read the old thread about it.

wasn't my idea, just makes sense. I always thought blueberry had the 8" though... Matt and I just "saw" a front axle in the rear SF the day I pulled the drums off the ends... so I kinda just made it...

Pardon my ignorance but what is an "SF"?

There is an 07 at Hendrick Jeep on 31 in Hoover. It's 31,900 and has 81,000 miles.

I had a conversation with Christo about why he didn't just use a domestic set of one ton axles instead of piecing together a diamond housing with 105 ends. He wanted it to stay toyota parts (mainly) for the availablilty of parts in south american. Of course, I was jumped on by the typical yoter is better nonsense crowd but I fail to see why a full float 14 bolt rear with a shaved bottom and a dana 60 front couldn't be used when a set of CUCV axles with 4.56 gears and a stock rear detroit from low mileage trucks are only $1,200. Tack on another $500 for new bearings seals, pads and rotors and another $250 for the rear coil and trac bar mounts although a triangulated four link would be a lot better IMO. You can swap the rear to drw from srw to shorten it to 63" and cut the long tube on the front or just run H2 or Hmmw wheels. I guess the wheel speed sensors would be an issues but they could probably be swapped. :hhmm:

Skeeball again tonight at Cahaba Brewing. Hagan, Hail, and I will be there. Any / all welcome to join and drink some of Eric's M's beer. They had the Kiwi Kolsch last week. It was tasty. I'll be there around 7-ish.
