I was hoping apeterson's visit was more productive but my suspected bronchitis has kinda kept work at bay. BUT some lights are working and the truck turned over for the very first time this morning.

Came home to a brand new Trollhole carb and slapped that on. Sure is easier when the truck is partly taken apart.

Also started putting hose clamps on everything.

Finally, I discovered the cause of my big fender gap. The fender is touching the minitruck steering box. :bang: The only solution I see is to clearance the nicely painted fender. :bang:

Post up some pics?? What year fender? Wonder why mine fits fine.. Ugh..

I am thinking it is because of the mount. I can't remember where I got it but it never fit quite exactly right.
I have no idea what year the fenders are.

Bloody great thread HH, sat down and enjoyed the whole thread in one session.

Congratulations on the amazing work so far, the old Gazoo is looking magnificent. I absolutely love the colours you have chosen.

Travis.

Thanks for the kind words Travis.
Here are some s***ty pics of where the steering gear is hitting the fender.

It is just at the edge of the cut out for the oem box. I am considering cutting about a 2 inch hole with a hole saw. That would give the corner of the box just enough room to protrude.

I am also in need of an electronic flasher for the lights. There are no helpful part stores nearby so without a year/make/model or part number I am SOL. Anyone know an electronic flasher that would replace this one?

I've never heard of a bad stock flasher. Does it not work?

The wiring of the EJ40 is weird in that the same flasher is used for turn signals and emergency flashers. THat's why the wiring around the hazard switch is so complex.

That's too bad about the fender clearance. A hole saw cut will look tacky and you've got a nice looking fj40 here.

The flasher is not bad, I have rear LED lights and all I have read says they do not provide the resistance I need to make the flasher work.
This thread is helpful:

And I did have a bad stock flash in my parts bin. If you shook it you could hear pieces rattling around in it.

From my internet travels, it does not appear there is an electronic flasher available with the spades arranged the same as the OEM box so I will just use some jumpers.

So what would you suggest to clearance the fender, Drew? If I get a new mount it will likely require reworking the steering linkage a bit, plus filling drilling new holes in the mount and maybe the frame. Getting another fender is not an option at this point and repainting it is not a great option. I am open to suggestions.

Just grab any electronic flasher that has 2 prongs. The Autozone I got mine from only had 1 or 2 choices when I got mine.

Must be nice. I've PMd him twice about getting one to no avail.

didn't get it - what exactly is the wiring problem ?

I still have the old flasher relay box, I think, if that's any help

Should not be that hard. Paypal him and you will get one on the next shipment. His service is second to none also. The one on my other 40 had something wrong with it and after talking it through we decided it might have been missing a jet and he sent me another.

I have trailer leds on the back. Those require an electronic flasher, not a solid state one. The leds will not give enough resistance to make the flasher open and close. The other issue is that since I have not gotten the driver's side fender mounted, I do not have a good ground so the circuit is not complete to fully test it. There may be something wrong with the brake light circuit too :meh:

I have a rhd with factory air con so need the idle up solenoid and throttle cable fitting. I just need to know how much to Paypal him. I think I've been put into the too hard basket.

Well, this is what I had to do. It needed considerable space but you can not see it from the inside. :meh:

Finally, I found my gasket material and made a paper gasket to go between the master cylinder and the booster. It isn't pretty but it will do the job and it is going to do it for free. :meh:

Booster and cylinder are also out of the '86 FJ60. I had to shorten the shaft at the pedal about a half inch and after turning over the booster it fit right in.

Just a short piece of tubing will get me to the vacuum port.

In between all that I had to go to the dentist for my 6 month check up and cleaning. On New Years Eve I bit down on an olive pit that was not supposed to be present and have had some discomfort since. Turns out I cracked an upper moler and a filling in a lower moler. I have two filling in my whole head and I fxxxed them both up. So I am wearing a temporary crown and have to get the permanent one in three weeks. That was $$1200 I was not prepared to spend. :crybaby:

Nevertheless, I came home and place an order with, of all places, JT Outfitters for a couple of S Port Seats to make my PS set up happy.

Now I am drinking to numb the financial and physical pain.

I know it could be worse, right DD?
Nagg Lorgg!

It is the big Confer rear tank that is getting repaired. They are a thousand bones. I will be in it by half when it is done. :meh:
I have one in my garage that you can have if you'd like. I was going to install it in the BJ42, but as you know, I sold that truck a while back.

Thanks for the offer but that was a year ago. The tank is in. The to do list is shrinking. I have about 20 1 inch hose clamps to install and then the bib goes on, bumper gets bolted down as does the winch.
