Any idea on pricing?

Thats a good questions , as this only shows up under the whole kit which sells for $866. I would like to try it if its different , but it would not surprise me if it not the stuff that SORs sells.
He's pretty connected in AU ,and I bet thats his source

Rare Spares, Scott's Old World and Spector all sell stuff from the same manufacturer.

I put up a Body Weatherstripping Restoration Kit on Ebay recently mostly as an advertisement. Ebay pricing discourages any discounts.

Ebay link is Toyota Land Cruiser FJ55 Restoration Weatherstripping :eBay Motors (item 120431247065 end time Jul-06-09 16:04:55 PDT)

I'll sell the pig before I give you 2k for the weatherstripping for it. Seriously $450 for the rear quarter? $90 dollars for the 4 little handle pads? Two years ago when I first got into pigs I didn't know any better. But now after dealing with manufactures around the world. Your prices are way, way, way high. You sir are what makes our hobby expensive.

I know what some of the vendors are paying for what they are selling us. And it makes me sick knowing the markup we are paying. That's about to change.

Sorry for the rant.

i hope that will happen,,,,,, in the meantime slo cruisers rubber is available and it fits,,, its too much for me but at least its out there as an option, and options are what we all need.

yeah, it does fit, but as mentioned, 2k for weatherstripping is ridiculous, even if we were building show quality rigs. there are enough aftermarket options out there that fit just fine in most of the applications and i'll just use intertube material for the handles.

for the few making show quality restos, john is their man, and i wish him the best in selling his kits.

"...But be honest, who else is making cargo window rubber, fixed window rubber, front vent window rubber, or upper tailgate rubber? And what alternatives are there really for those pieces?...."

Overall, I have to agree with Lil'John. Marshall, you have shown your excellence and community sharing often and I appreciate that. If you can get less costly stuff produced then all we can say is hurrah!

But credit Slocruisers for giving us options at dealer relative pricing. PV Cruisers was a bit less costly when they were in buisness but costs go up and it has been a while. Moreover, PV cruiser spent all that money on die's and rubber and went down. Down, dead and gone at great finacial loss as well I imagine.

BTW- just the driver window run on my wife's camry is $170.00 IIRC.

It appears I made some people angry over my post. Sorry.

The forum supposed to be fun. It's a hobbie to work and play with your Land Cruiser, meet fellow owners and share stories.

I placed an adverstisement on Ebay for a restoration kit. Ebay Motors doesn't offer the site for classified advertisements. If I sold the set on ebay, I will have to pay about $120 of ebay fees so I inflated the price I normally charge on my website.

My manufacturer says I am way way way under pricing my pieces considering the complexity of Toyota's design. Vent window rubber and fixed window rubber for the rear doors cost me a small fortune to reproduce and make.

Door pads costing $90 for 8 pieces of rubber. Think about it---four separate molds to make, rubber and manufacturing costs. You may find door pads NOS someplace after a long search. But if you need door handle pads, I have them for sale.

My website is a service for the Land Cruiser restoration market who is restoring their FJ55. Yes, it is a fringe market. The orphan Land Cruiser is the FJ55.

I even had some FJ45LV vent window rubber made over the last few years for a couple of LV owners. Another orphan Land Cruiser.

Do you value the work you perform? The services you provide to your customers, clients or friends? When PV Crusiers was producing pieces, Seth told me FJ55 owners are a tight group. Seth said FJ55 owners are tight with their money. He was trying to make a go of it and was sinking deeper in debt.

I am not going to give the finger wave to the group. I am non-profit based on my Schedule C over the years. If you are looking, there is no secret warehouse of Pig parts in Japan based on my sales to a couple of Japanese customers. TLC bought up all the main pieces of rubber weatherstripping from Toyota years ago.

Best wishes to everyone,

John

I'm not angry...

I just wish my Pig was worth restoring. It is nice to know that these parts are available, and I'm thankful that you could come through for me when I needed a windshield w/s on very short notice...

John,

You did not make me angry with your post.

I appreciate the development work you (and those before you) have done to bring Pig pieces to market.

The Iron Pig is a red-headed step child in the Cruiser world. The ones I see have been hacked up, and some of them probably aren't worth restoring.

They are beautiful to me, and I love mine, but the market sure doesn't support restoration from a resale perspective. So I will go slowly, with the thought that I will not get back out what I have put into my Pig.

Again, thanks for producing these pieces.

just FYI, on the hood stuff, i just used some i got from home depot and it works great, it's not a place that requires a complicated weatherstrip setup. you can see it here:

That kind of looks like what I just used on my tailgate today! I consult this thread from time to time, usually after a weeklong trip through Death Valley, and I come home with mor dust inside than outside!

So far on my truck, I have Specter door seals, and some of their window felts (Toyota, their last, I understand). Then JC Whitney felt/sweepers for the tailgate. I have a PVCruiser upper w/s but haven't put it on, mine is sort of OK. I have been looking for that pinch weld thingie, but time and money just haven't been there lately to pursue it.

There was exactly enough leftover to do the sides of the tailgate (I believe these pieces were original as well):

Oh, Tailgate closed, looking down at the un-even seal... Seems OK to me:

I'm gonna go find a dusty trail and see how it works!

:bounce:

By the way, this piece makes a reasonable low budget upper tailgate window channel by placing it on each of the two pinch welds. The glass is cushioned nicely by the nice soft rubber... I suppose you could glue a piece of inner tube rubber between the two pinch welds as well.

Yeah, I have a lot of time on my hands lately...
