could we do the hood seal without the foam in the middle? would it hold up as just a "v" shaped type seal? could it be done in two pieces, one the foam and one the shell?
Lou, I've had good success with the weatherstrip adhesive sold at places like NAPA when I did the weatherstrip on the tailgate itself using the part that John at Slocruisers makes up.

have checked into making it in two pieces but the fabber we have used in the past cannot or does not have the ability to do the high density foam
........the dimensions complicate things a bit also as the part that rides aganst the hood; 1 1/8th inches is very unusual have talked with another fabber who does high density foam BUT they need the sample....just waiting for it to get back to ship it to them
another option would be to adapt a flat based seal with a upright lip; have tried quite a few searches and all I have come across are less that 1 inch in the upright position; IMO we could go higher as the foam is compressable but lower

The stuff I have is yellow like regular contact cement.
I purchased it locally from a company called Allied Products , flooring distributors for the Mid Atlantic and it has a Allied label so I don't know who makes it for them and they will not ship it because it's Flammable. This is a flooring cement and as I stated a local Porsche Restoration shop uses this stuff for everything that requires glue. I used it for that tailgate weather strip and so far seems like solid stuff. It maybe used for cove base. I sure you could find something locally from a flooring company.

Lou forgo all that two piece design stuff. Just make the profile out of a solid rubber extrusion just make sure it's a low durometer so it will flex. Maybe a 60 or 65. Something Toyota should have done as our have not lasted. Only reason mine were in such good shape was the 55 had been sitting since 1985 in a garage. It will work just fine and look correct.
Build it, they will come. I'm in on a length.
You won't get many people to buy it if you make it expensive. Solid cheap extrusion.
Lou if you need my sample just let me know. I know I've been slack about getting you stuff. I'm trying to get my Land Cruiser business off the ground and trying to do my normal job as well we are expecting #2 in 4 months. No pitty for me as I'm having fun.

got a reply on the durometer and the minimum durometer they can go down to is 70............to set up for a lower durometer would have to order 10.000 feet or more.......we only need 66 inches per pig........
he also explained that there is not much difference between the 65 and the 70 duro meter but that the original is very very soft and thus the fact as you stated that they did not wear/last very long......comments/opinions and advice welcome;Lou

have checked some European sites Seidel Profile for sponge seals and for something similar the cost would be 10-15 Euros per meter NOT counting shipping
see profiles #s 14-001 and 14-003 again theses are 23 mms in height and LESS than the 1 1/8th of the originals

How about this, hood cowl weather strip for a LX570, I just order it , should arrive monday $36.00. I also have samples coming for the tailgate side tracks along with 4-5 different clips for installing belted weather strip from Restoration Specialist.

Lou, can you measure the height of the Lexus seal?; trying to get something close to the 1 1/8 inch of the original

I'll do that to at work today, it appears to sit higher in the middle section and it is hollow with a flat bottom. I might glue it to a flat piece of solid rubber to get the height right. if the function is to direct water and keep it from running down the face of the firewall , this will work.
This might be another option, t-shape weather strip (solid rubber) , 9/32 base and come in 3/4 , 1 inch and 1 1/2 in height from Restoration Specialist. I'll have them send me a sample
with the tailgate side track samples, along with a piece of flat stock that's 1/2 wide and about 1/8 inch high.

Lou; that is about the shape of the sample I sent out and it is very close to the one marshall posted pix of........if it can be obtained in about a 1 1/2 inch height then I think it might be what we are looking for; can you check the durometer specs on it?.....we can have it fabbed in 70 which is pretty soft.........Thanx again for the input.......BTW your pig continues to be an inspiration

Retsoration Specialist is strictly retail, I'll have them send me samlpes and we'll see if they work. My concern is the bottom appears to have small curve. The LX rubber is only about 5/8 of an inch high.

the curve seems open enough so that a bead of glue could be run, allowed to get tacky and after; hold the hood down to clamp it in place; there are some weather strips that have a sticky backing but all the ones I have come across are at max. about 3/4 inch in height...Lou
It will be a good test for that contact cement, extreme heat, water and elements, there is no question regarding contact stick, once it sets up and comes in contact with itself it's bonded and it sets in about three min.
