Here's what I have learned about my '78 so far the past week.

Intake manifold cracked, brazed on the outside, jb weld on the inside was found rattling around...lucky that did get sucked in. Ok, no prob, got a early toyota big intake coming. The local guru just stopped in to tell me the head has two cracks in it on the top....errr!

So I need some help on a source for a good 2f head with reasonable shipping.

This is what I get for not wheeling my junk. My wife is going to love this.

Sorry to hear that. It shouldn't be hard to find. I'm guessing of course but I have given a couple away for free and the one I have now is spoken for but if the guy changes his mind I'll let you know.

I see one on ebay right now, but I like to come here first and get some good opinions and maybe even buy from a fellow cruiser head. I need to get one come fairly quickly.

Mag. do you know when the guy might decide or not?

make sure you get the correct head, if you have domed pistons

I've got a head from a '78 in MT, but shipping would probably be a few $$'s

Will the production date tell me if they are domed or not? Or vin? I am almost certain it is an April of 78. I can call the guy tomorrow, but I am on the hunt tonight.

i cracked my manaflod and had luck welding it back together. i am not sure how well it will hold up when i take it on the whiway but it has been there for a year now. see what the local weld shop says. better yet see if they could build you a new one that is not cast.

I employ an awesome welder, but I took the opportunity and got the bigger intake to slap on her. The head is my main concern now.

What should I have done to a new head to make sure it is good to go?

If you have dome pistons you should have a 61031 cast into the top of the head. Mine was cracked and I wound up paying way too much for one from cruiserparts and when it arrived it looked like it came off the titanic. But my machine shop verified it wasn't cracked, put in all new valve seats, used the valves from my cracked head, and shaved .030 off to boost the compression a little bit. And of course the day this head showed up on my doorstep I got a PM from another mudder who had one for 1/3 the cost already magnafluxed 3 hours from me. I still might buy that one if he's still got it when I'm up his way in August. The early heads seem to be getting harder to come by.

So where is a good place to buy a head if I am going to have to buy one through a business?
