Mike makes some of the best custom AR's on the market. He's got a passion for accurate rifles and his dedication shows in his work. He's pretty big on a few of the predator hunting forums I hang out on. I don't have have one in my collection but have shot a couple that belong to friends, very accurate rifles.

A few of my current choices.

I just took my CCW class from Stengel Gun and was quite dissapointed in the way the material was presented, the classroom and the shooting. Which consisted of shooting at a piece of notepaper at about 10' any number of rounds. One lady refused to shoot utill she was told she had to to get the certificate. Her husband helped her load the revolver then she fired about 5 rounds and never hit the paper. Casey, the instructor helped her reload, then she fired about 3 more and did hit the paper once. Casey yelled at her at one point cause she kept pointing the gun everywhere but safe. I would have flunked her on the spot, but no, he allowed her to pass. It's hard to accept that this ignorant woman will be carry a deadly weapon. Stengel spent way too much time telling us about his extreme prejudices and intolerant views than giving us any real instruction.

I took a CCW class several years ago in Kentucky and what a professional class that was. He talked about best/ safest ways to carry, good/bad holsters, firearm and ammo maintence, being aware of your surroundings, your rights and responsibilities and top notch oversight of the range. Stengel barely touched on most of this.

My wife took her CCW class at Top Shot in Grand Junction. She said it was well done. There is a large variance as to what is required to be covered in the classes though.

I'll toss out a recommendation for the Grand Valley Training Club. Tiff and I have taken and enjoyed their classes.

Ace,
Ive heard some real bad stuff about that guy. I want my wife to take a class but it sure wont be his. I had a friend that went into his shop and was looking at a handgun. He asked to see one he had on display. When Stengel handed it to him he threaten to draw down on him if my friend covered him with the muzzle of the firearm while handling it.

I took Lynn Armstrongs class about 7 years ago now. It was 2days long with excellent classroom content covering everything from simple home defense to law. Expensive but well worth it.

I'm planning on taking my 10/22 and 9mm pistol on the Swell Run and punch some holes in cans & paper. Expect some others might too. Please shoot a good distance from camp as my dog is very gun shy. Doug's is too.

Thanks,
Ace

Thread has gone stale....bump.

Has anyone found a reliable source for ammo? Looking for .22 LR, 9mm and .308 (150-165 gr).

Actually have a decent supply of .22 but some is over 40 years old.

Couple of pieces of news received today. The BLM management plan affects more than our wheeling, it also restricts where we can target shoot on public lands. Considering the mess many shooters leave behind this is probably a good thing.

The other bit of news gets into the politics of gun control, but considering all the anti-gun laws being passed willy-nilly, I feel it should be addressed. Learned today that the majority of Colorado's sheriffs are going to file a lawsuit against the recently passed overly restrictive and unconstitutional gun laws.

Ordered a couple Crossbreed holsters in early Feb. Just got the confirmation today that they are on the way! I'll post thoughts after a bit of use.

I am not familiar with Crossbreed but it looks very similar to the one I use. http://www.comp-tac.com/product_info.php?products_id=95 The combination of leather against the skin and kydex around the gun works well for me. Makes reholstering easy. I think you will like it. I do have some wear on the gun finish that might or might not have occurred if it was all leather but I wouldn't know for sure.

Id like to check those out when you get them in. Ive heard good things but Ive never handled one.

Sure thing. I'll let you know when I get them. In the meantime this little package came today. :D
