Just noticed this today - when I pulled the key out once to the office the noise/beep/high pitch sound stayed on. It does decrease in loudness when the key is removed - very subtle, and stops with the door closed. Also noticed now the head lights staying on after removing the key. Any ideas what is causing this? I installed two power outlets directly to the battery 3 weeks past but no other mods performed. Something to do with the ignition switch? I will be out the next 2-3 hours and answer questions then. Thanks, Nelson

Sun roof alarm?

-B-

Second the sun roof alarm, only sounds when tilted not when open, and the headlights will go out when you open the door.

Hrumppphhh... did know we had a sunroof alarm

Those guys are probably right, but just another idea just in case. I have seen on many cars where the key gets worn down enough to pull it out in any position, like possibly the ign. is still on.

Thats what I was thining, that would prevent the lights from turning off too. I've had that happen on my 88 4runner and 89 supra. Its kind of nice when that happens because you can start and warm the car up in the winter and still lock it :)

got an alarm? My aftermarket alarm has that noisemaker all confused.

hmm same here, kinda neat actually, every time I use it I am affraid I am going to forget it.

got a new Hidden feature to check out on the 80.

Thanks guys - I will go check and respond back. Nelson

Sorry guys - not the sunroof; opened and closed it. Sound still there. Also the sound is only present with the drivers door open. Tried a less used key and nothing changed. No alarm installed. Any other suggestions, Nelson

this also happens to mine. if i put the key back in, turn it to ON and then back off and take the key out it stops. happened when a buddy was with me. i looked at him with panic and said "RUN!!" as i tore off across the lot.

Anyone else have any ideas? I have tried using a different key - buzzer sound still there. Is the ignition switch dying? Nelson

Check whatever sensor/switch tells it that the sunroof is open as it really sounds like it thinks it's open.

Never heard of or knew of that sunroof alarm, never noticed.

How does it know what position it is in? anything adjustable that may be off in this case?

I personally think there is something stuck in the ignition switch. The sunroof operates normally, I have opened/closed several times. If the door is closed or opened with the door button pressed the buzzer stops. I was really hoping C-dan had suggestions. Thanks, Nelson

Mine does the same thing and has for the past year. Next time it stays on like that, put the key back in just a tad and I betcha it goes off.

WAG;

I think the key warning switch may be an external part of the cylinder, possibly it is sticky? got some graphinte in it? graphite is conductive, pull the dash and take a look.
