The wife backed her LX into the garage door (it didn't open all the way for some reason). Anyway I just found out that you cannot buy the plastic lens only, you have to buy the whole assembly. Funny thing, I looked up the part number to call CDan and the website I used gave me two prices for the same part #. If I say it's for a Lexus it's $170.57, for Toyota it's $150.50. Same part number, same part. Right?

The trend of a one piece capsule light is the trend for most cars today. I just got my '01 honda prelude back from the shop last week (guy turning out of a side-street t-boned me in the rear quarter while I was driving on a major street...honda shop had to cut away the entire inner/outer rear quarter). Anyways, the guy at the shop told me on most tail lights, you can't buy the lens only like in the good 'ol days. You have to get the entire light unit. That tail light was $330, and it's a honda part, not an Acura part. Headlights are even more $$, as they are more contoured and use something like an arcrylic-coated glass or something like that. It wouldn't surprise me if the front head lamp unit (lens/body) for a LX or 100 is in the $500+ range. I guess the capsule light units reduce the number of parts for a vehicle, thus reducing costs for the automaker (fewer parts to stock, maybe cheaper to manufacture)?
