Just sitting here enjoying my post-front-axle-rebuild beer. It is REALLY good.

I had forgotten how much work this job is. Everything went smoothly except for a bad wheel bearing, and I put a scratch in the inner axle seal area with my seal puller. I dremeled it smooth again and called it good.

It took me too long, but I am really anal. There was a 3:30 am night in there, but didn't start til the kids were in bed.

New rotors, 100 series pads, wheel bearings on one side, Marlin axle seals, everything else Toyota from Cdan (sorry), 4 tubes of Valvoline Palladium Moly, 1 tub of Mobil 1 grease, 4 quarts of Mobil 1 75w-90, 4 rolls of a paper towels, 4 gallons of diesel, 4 cans of brake cleaner, MANY beers................ready for URE...........priceless.

Over and out, see some of you Friday.

Robert

Not sure but couldn't putting a dremel to the inner axle cause a leak.

I was torn on that. The scratch was deep enough to catch a finger nail, which, I think, would have leaked. I removed just a little material, not much at all. I think it will be fine. The Marlin seals have that extra ring around the outside, I hope it works.

I was really P.O.d that I got sloppy with the seal puller.

10-4 got the block back on tuesday and been piecin together the puzzle since then, hopefully soon.

I need to get this done soon. What was your cost? If I follow the front axle rebuild thread, do you think I will have any difficulties or would you recommend having someone around who knows what they are doing?

Can't wait for my celebration

My cost was around $500. But, I replaced the rotors, pads, and wheel bearing on one side. If you stick to just the rebuild, I think the parts (from Toyota) run around $220. Then figure for 3 tubs of moly grease at $4, a tub of wheel bearing grease at $4, 4 quarts of gear lube, lotsa paper towels and brake cleaner.

You should be able to swing it for $300 or less.

Pretty straightfoward, just messy and time consuming.
