This is a culture question ..

Just to know the experts thought about those great auto trannys .. and which sould be the best to hande good power ( nothing really stupid like 500 HP .. ) about 300 hp and 400 - 500ft/p of torque ..

Something that can be used on the road with good shifting and that should be tuneable for manual shifting, lockups .. etc etc etc ..

Thanks ..

Both will handle that kind of power with a quality rebuild.

The 700R4 has a lockup converter, 4 speeds and a lower 1st.

The Th400 can be built stronger, but takes more power to run it. No lockup converter. Three speeds. It'll suck a lot more gas on the road.

The 700R4 is a better trans unless you're going to put just stupid amounts of power to it and use a trans brake.

Most adapters are made for both.

I'd worry about 500lb-ft... use a GOOD rebuild for that.

I'm making about 325hp and 360lb-ft and run a 700R4 with basic upgrades and a manual VB... the trans is a little mad at me ever since I ran it dry.. but otherwise is great.

As I'm a diesel guy and love the auto trannys just triying to figure if I swap out my A442F and run instead a 700R4 that would be much more simple ..

As much I will be in the 200 HP section ( at flywheel ) and maybe 350 ft/p of torque ..

ideas ideas .. :grinpimp:

Thanks for all coments guys ..

If you want to put one of these behind your 2H you would be better off rebuilding the toy trans. There are alot of issues with that swap. If your thinking chevy V8 then I'd go with the 700r4.

I'm hoping my moderatly built 700 (all updates, Beast sunshell, vette servo & upgraded pump) will stand up to 350+HP & 450+ ftlbs. I'm probably not going to be easy on the throttle and its the weak link in my drivetrain, I'll probably have to go 4l80e someday.

But the 4L80E it's electronic and you need to start dealing with VSS and ECU ..

Actually my Tencha runs a H55F that thought are a impresive tranny .. but my 80 series runs a A442 that barely convince me. Seems the only person that really know those trannys are Rodney in Australia .. ( far from us ) and in the time that this tranny die, I'm not gonna rebuild it ..

If you are driving a lot on the road at 55mph+, go with the 700R4 or 4L80E. If not, you can't beat the th400.

Really not .. my 80 series it's my DD but I want she be ready for a long trip in a blink ..

Just figure that my 80 series run a 1HD-T Turbo Diesel engine pushing around 14 PSI with 3" straight pipe that ut it around 180 - 190 HP and close to 350 ft/p of torque ..

I'm also running 315 and maybe at the end of this year will swap a 4.88 in .. it make me looks in a OD tranny with specific shifting point to been hable get the better performance of my engine ..

peak torque around 2000 rpm and Hp 3600 rpm .. but the sweet spot for this engine it's definately around 2000 rpm ( full boost ) and 3000 rpm ..

I'm not totally knowledgeable on aftermarket 4l80e controllers, but I don't think they require a VSS. They do run close to $1k though. Your problem will be adapting the 700r4 to the 2H.

I'm not gonna use with the 2H .. tencha have a wonderfull stick H55F ..

It gonna run in Marilu with my 1HD-T that share the same bolt pathern with 1FZ-FE engines .. actually running A442.

Ahhh, but I still think it will be a pain to put a 700r4 behind a 1hd-t, I think I saw somewhere where someone made an adapter plate to bolt a 700r4 behind a UZ, maybe something similar would work for your setup.

Here's a link: Lexus Toyota Chevy GM TH400/TH350/700R4 Transmission

looks like a bit of work but may work out.

Looks little more work than I spected .. not a simple flex plate ..
