Suggestion depending on oil cooler evaluation .... John purchase the engine that was listed in my previous post (which he called about and learned it was out of commission). The ad said the engine came with a head gasket set. If that is true I suggest using the head gasket set AND the head from the other engine based on a better than average probability John's head is cracked. If he can get the engine and gasket set for $200 (or less!) that is not far from what the gasket set cost alone.
Still unanswered .... the 5% coolant in oil is still not accounting for the huge amount of coolant loss.

Added thought because I know $$$ is tight. If the $200 engine and head swap plan succeeds in getting you back on the road you can sell the leftover engine core and head for $100 to someone looking to rebuild.
I was thinking about this as well. Maybe some of the coolant in the oil is burning off, leaving only 5% left over in the oil? Either way, it's a confirmed problem we can track down and fix (finally).
John has already found one loose coolant hose clamp. I hope we'll find more.
John has articulated to me that he no longer thinks it is right to accept help with his truck due to what has transpired. He has resigned from the club.
The BOD will be discussing these events so we can determine if any further action is required on our part.
Our primary goal (as if this was not implied) is to make sure everyone in the club feels safe from verbal and physical threats, both on the forum as well as at all club events. I cannot stress enough that what has transpired here is unacceptable and will not be tolerated from anyone, member or not.
I truly consider the members of this club to be my family and I will do everything in my power to ensure their safety.
