I'm picking up a car in TN on the 4th and driving back to Raleigh. The car hasn't been registered or had plates since Jan but I will put insurance on it for the drive back. Does NC issue any temp tags for situations like this?

For those who think slapping another plate on there is a good idea...it's not, it's a felony!!

are you getting it from a dealer or private seller. Even if its a small used auto place, they should provide you with a temp plate.

Last time I bought from an owner, I had the signed over title, proof of insurance and rolled back from FL to NC with no plate.:meh:

Didn't get pulled over, but maybe the coppers didn't see me:grinpimp:

Private seller.

Looks like I'll just risk it, I know the troopers will be out heavy for the holiday...

I'm with Alex. I got pulled over when I bought our 80, driving from GA to NC. I let him know I just bought it, he asked for title, bill of sale, my license, he called it in and away I went. Mine also had an expired plate (why I got pulled over) and he just had to verify the titled owner matched the bill of sale...

Well.....i deal with regs and stuff all day long on base. Insurance is a must with insurance card or paperwork on you. Get a bill of sale (notarized if u can). Title signed over (notarized) .

I think you will be fine.

Or u can pay me to tow it back for u.

just go to the state police office in TN (call them) you can get a one way permit (plate) to drive the car. usually runs about 25 bucks. just need a current insurrace card under your name and the signed title.

your auto insurance will cover any new purchase for 30 days (motorcycles are an exception), However you should try to notify your agent as soon as possable after purchasing a new vehicle, since they would like to maximize the profits on your new purchase.
