Just like the title sais, it runs at normal operating temp when driving, then when I shut it off it climbs up near the orange line. It has been up to 70' outside for the first time the past two days but everything else is a constant.. Thermostat time???
It is fairly normal for the temp to rise alot when the engine is shut off. You know the following, but when running the air from outside is passing over the engine cooling it and the coolant is circulating, when it is shut off the coolant and air just stop moving and the temp rises.
Has it just started to do this? When was the last drain and fill/flush? I wasn't aware there was a time on t-stats but could be very wrong now as I usually am.
I knowe there have been grounding issues with the gauges before and the temp may not be anywhere near as hot as the gauge says.
Oh, Does it the gauge show its cooled off if you turn the truck back on?
It just started doing this and it also coincides with the two unseasonably warm days 70' (warmest days since I've had it) When I turn the truck back on it initially has a hard time starting, temp gauge shows hot, then cools back down when I start moving. Havent flushed or thermo'ed since buying it in JAN
Just a thought, what weight oil are you using. The reason I as I ask is, I used 20/50 through this winter and my temp gauge really never went above the 'C' very much until it got to the 70's a few days ago and my temp gauge stayed right around the middle. Maybe the oil weight sould be evaluated as per ambient temp could effect enging temp due to viscosity change?.?

Both of my 2Fs do exactly what you describe, they always have. I think it's called "heat soaking" or something like that. Does it run hot at any running speed?
The electric cooling fan is only for the carb. It helps with hotstarting problems found on US F powered vehicles that are choked with anti-pollution crap.
