Well GSMTR will be a hoot this year. Everybody will be on Schoolbus, Guardrail, Upper 2, or the 6-4-5 loop.

I read somewhere that the STLCA was going to look at other options for the GSMTR if there were trail closures at Tellico. I can't see them having the event there with 3 of the good trails/obstacles off limits. Then again, I don't think half of the people would attend that usually do.

Copied from the "Save Tellico" thread on the Trails-Events-Expeditions forum on the main forums page:

The Forest Service issued a 2 year temporary closure order for Tellico. SFWDA will have a news release out soon followed by legal action. The comment period on the EA is up, but we still need everyone to keep the pressure on their elected officals.

Here's the info from the USFS

Upper Tellico OHV Area

Once again the Gov caves to the tree huggers and then wonders why people just start wheeling in any old field that they see when they have no more legal places to wheel.

This is just what happened back in Los Angeles when I used to race cars back in the late 90's early 00's.
All of a sudden the local governements started to cave to residents complaining about loud cars going out to the legal race tracks so they closed the legal race tracks down. Then street racing started to pop up on every long industrial street (and there are millions of them in LA)
They never could seem to see the connection between the two even though every car club in the state pointed it out to them.

This would be like closing down hiking trails and then scratching their heads when hikers start to blaze their own trails up the side of mountains.

This sucks and is typical of govt. They do not hear the people even when they are yelling.

FS seems to be dropping the ball here. Everyone get out your pens and make sure your reps hear your opinion! I am livid.

This is just the begining. It is an inevitable snowball. It all started about 2 years ago during the last elections....culminating to a point of no return this last November. I'm usually an optimist but unless citizens step up not only is your wheeling gone so is our country.

Sorry lunatic ranting over. I think think the FS will see the light though and eventually open it back up but under heavy restrictions and excessive fees with little to no oversight and maintanence. The clubs will do there best but it will be little to stop the tree huggers. Sad thing is there are 10X as many tree huggers in Oregon yet we have 10X as many places to wheel.

Yall need to move out west where the BLM (Bureau of Land Management) doesn't cave as easily.

Wish i could talk the better half into that. :bang::bang::bang:

Tell me about this BLM though. Have heard of it just really never paid it no mind.

BLM

The BLM Beruea of Land Managment. Falls under the Nataional System of Public Lands. I don't know a lot about them except they manange nearly everything in the Western United States. Our ranch back home backs right up to the Elliot Forrest which I beleive they partially manage in partnership with the Oregon deparment of Forrestry. It is close to 100K acres and I don't think I've run into but a couple of officials and that was during hunting season. Scarriest thing I've ever run into there is a Bear and a couple of times some cows that got out. We ride dirtbikes for as far as our tanks will take us. They don't have a lot of oversight and personnel and they have millions of acres of land of which is free reign for the most part.

We also have unlimited beach access with 70 miles of mostly unrestricted dunes starting just down the street. You don't have to stop until you hit the next harbor. If you like rock crawling just head out over the cascades...dry as a popcorn fart and extremely volcanic.

I know the BLM seems to work for the people and it usually appears to be for pubilic use. You hear about enviromental impacts from time to time but it is just a few acres at a time....just a dent in the Millions that are available. But we do have about a 10:1 ratio of enviromental wacko's out there. Good thing is most of them are so high on weed they can never get anything constructive done.
