I re-foamed mine the other day. It only had a small piece torn/missing, but sounded like garbage. Sounds great now. Anyone have suggestions on what foam padding to use that goes around it? I tore mine off during the repair process.

Which model JL is that? I'm currently shopping on crutchfield for a speaker.
Did you have to modify your box?

I have the JBL stock box that I'm going to reuse.
It’s the W3 6.5” I had to add a spacer (1/2” or 3/4”) to get the depth needed to fit in the box and then I had to trim the grill so it wasn’t touching the speaker. I thought I had a picture of the grill after I modified it but I can’t find it.

I didn't know those things existed, but that helps a lot. I just looked some up and they're pretty cheap. Like $10. Okay, now I gotta find a JL speaker in stock.

more importantly, how's it sound? My Fender sound system in my Golf R is so nice for factory with good bass. Granted the Golf is a tiny car compared to the LX just need a little more bass in the cabin

It sounds pretty nice. But I also replaced the entire stereo system 🤷‍♂️ Alpine head unit, infinity door speakers (components in the front), and a 5 channel 700W infinity amp powering everything.

oh nice, i can't do that w/ my 04 LX ATM so there's that

I have a Kenwood Excelon HU with a pioneer 5 channel 2000w. Infinity kappa components up front.
I'm going to order the new sub and infinity coax speakers for the rear. Should sound pretty good when I'm done.

I think this Kicker shallow mount sub will fit with minimal mods to the factory enclosure.

Yea, that's an affordable option. The only issue I have with it is my amp is capable of driving much more than that speaker can handle. So if I can't find a decent option I'll settle for the kicker.

It was way more useful for me to remove this "sub"...
