I recently purchased a copy of TechStream (newest global version) and was finally able to get it to connect to my truck.

Since my truck was built in Japan I assumed that was the logical choice, but only Landcruiser and Prado are choices.

The only types are GRJ, HDJ, URJ and UZJ. There is no VDJ.

Does anyone have any idea why VDJ would not be an option?

Correct me if I am wrong but I think TIS TechStream is only for vehicles in the North America market.

Did you check in the configuration settings to see if there is a Japan, North America, Europe, or Other option?

Yes I did and they are Japan, North America, Europe and Other. I have the Global version. My truck was built in Japan and that's why I chose Japan. I could try Other, but I'm concerned that I may loose my registration.

Maybe that is your problem. I always thought VDJ wasn't intended for JDM despite it being built there.

There is no option for the Middle East (Dubai) let alone Australia. I was wondering if those markets would be included in the Other option, but even after I selected it the Land Cruiser 70 series (VDJ) is still not an option. My dealer also uses TechStream so I’m going to see if he will clarify what the issue is.

The correct answer is "other". TMCA= the destination for your truck and it is under the "other" tech stream configuration. Are you able to post up screen shots? Could you confirm your techstream version number (bottom left corner of the main page). When connecting to a newer vehicle, it should be auto detecting, you should never have to select the engine. Unless you are talking about looking up repair info, in which case you have to select that. It would be under "europe and general" and there is VDJ in that section.

OK, so if using an approved VIM Usb DLC3 connector (In japan its by denso) then it should select your engine automatically when Identifying. Are you using "connect to vehicle" or "generic scantool"?

OK, your suggestion seemed to work until I selected VDJ.

I get the following error which does not make sense.

When I select OK, it returns to the beginning. I'm sure that my ECU is fine as it has not been touched and the truck is brand new.

Blomdala,

Can you clarify what you mean by VIM Usb DLC3?

Are you referring to this box? If so, I don’t have one. I purchased Techstream off of eBay and this didn’t come with it.

Thank you for posting your screen shots. In your "setup" tab, there should be a "VIM" selection. That VIM is the OTC module you show, or a drewtech techstream lite dongle, in Japan there is a denso VIM. You need that for GTS to talk to the car. A generic USB to OBD(DLC3) connector will not work. You need GTS to see that module. Based on your error or no communication, I would guess that there is an issue with the device you are using between your computer and the vehicle.

I'm using a generic one so I guess that is the problem. I'll see if I can find a Denso. Thanks for all the help.

Happy to help! Sorry for the delay in your repairs. Techstream is specific nowadays with all the knockoffs and such floating around. When you get a unit, you should just need to install the drivers, plug it in, and select it in the VIM selection of techtream and be ready to roll.
