Hey Everyone - First, I ask that you be kind and understand that I'm not very mechanically inclined or very techy so I'd like some help and expertise in getting a techstream setup.

I've done some research but its confusing and I've looked on ebay and not sure what to purchase. If one of the authorities on here could give me advice on the computer I need (I do have a spare Sony Vaio running Win 10 64 bit I think which I could use); however, if I need to purchase one, I will. Also, which vendor should I purchase the techstream from?

I really appreciate your help on this. Thanks so much (btw, even if I can't do the work, any repairs I'd need I would take the computer/techstream to my indy).

Thanks to all who answer!

BTW, I have a 2003 LX w/ a shade over 100K. Thanks again.

As far as a known-working cable/Techstream combo. I bought this one:
Amazon.com: KKmoon Mini VCI Car OBD Diagnostic Scanner OBD2 USB Interface Scan Tool for TOYOTA TIS Techstream Diagnostic Cable & Software: Cell Phones & Accessories

I've gotten it working on XP, Vista and recently, an XP virtual machine running on a MacBook. From what I've read, it's possible to get Techstream running on a 64-bit Windows machine, but not as straightforward.

If I were you, I'd buy the combo above. While your waiting on it to arrive, ask around looking for an old XP machine. Someone you know has one they haven't used in years sitting in the bottom of a closet. An XP install is going to be the simplest.

If it's taking a while to track down an old 32-bit machine, try these instructions on your Sony:
(Solution) Mini VCI + Toyota TIS Techstream 8.x on Windows 7/8 64-bit. - Toyota 4Runner Forum - Largest 4Runner Forum

Good luck!

I purchased the version posted by labcab. Never had access to a 32 bit machine. Followed the instruction in the 4R link above and got it working.

Then gave that version away to a guy at work and ordered another version that runs 10.X software and that version (and newer) works natively with 64 bit machines.

I'm running a clean install of techstream version 10.10.18 on a Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with Win 10 pro 64-bit, no issues. Unfortunately I got mine through AliExpress and the specific item in my order history says it is no longer available. For reference if you want to find a similar product it was: Original MINI VCI J2534 diagnostic interface Firmware 2.0.4 MINI VCI TIS Techstream V10.10.018 for Toyota Lexus Free Shipping. Amazon list something a product running the same software version it but I can't personally vouch.
