who has used a hand throttle and pros and cons of using one?

I have never had one but if you have a winch and are by yourself it sure is nice to excite the alternator to give the winch extra juice. And of course the obvious(if you have a manual transmission) of only having 2 feet on an incline. Only draw back I can see is that you are engaging at a higher RPM and it rubs the clutch a little more(probably not any significant difference). I am not a rock climber so I am sure someone else can tell you more. I wished I had one several times for the winching though. Besides they are cool. Go for it!

I have one on the Troopy... but they all came that way :D

Advantage: allows me to adjust the idle so it doen't stall b/c it's runnin like CRAP these days...lol

Sorry, I'm no help.

Don't know of any "disadvantages" of having one.... don't use it and you're back to OEM / stock. Only advantages.

1985 toyota diesel

Does anyone know anythign about the 2l that came in the old toyota pickups? I am looking at one on ebay right now, kinda looks like the engine has a turbo on it but it is not mentioned in his add.

I am just to the point now with the 4runner I am really considering parking and repaceing it. or at least find a better running truck and swap my body onto it.

I want to keep it as simple as posible... I just feel compleatly ignorant that I have not been able to get my truck running and I hate to bring it to a shop to get it worked on because the last time i brought it to a shop they raped me.

Wow, even with the turbo it is only 86 hp? I am just going to watch the auction for a while, 6 days to go and already there has been 7 bids on it.Plus there is the how I am going to get it back from West V. If I dont get this I am probably just going to start looking for a newer toya.

Just do a propane conversion and get rid of the carb. The 4runner was pretty impressive at Sicily Island or bring it to a wrench session and let someone play with it. Engine swaps are over rated.

I had not even considered propane....

Hey Scott, Still got that Huge tank off the troopy?

Also I am rarely ever home for wrenching sessions.

Is it going back in the troopy? If so, how much more economical is it?

I know I usually start this way but....

Let me say that I'm certainly not the authority on it but in the way that I hope to use it for the troopy would be for the cleanliness of the fuel burning and what a motor looks like on propane vs. regular fuel. Hopefully to make her happy for many years to come. o/w the cost of a tank of propane is not that much difference than gasoline.

The take is still hanging in the original place. Never took it off.

im going to ask here for fear of getting slammed in other threads.

whats the point of mounting the rear shocks in a inverted "v" shape?

I know vaginas... not shocks... but the more angle the less travel obviously and so one opinion is: Closer to vertical "better"... however, as I also understand it (which may indeed be wrong) is that more vertical = more "bounce/rebound" ... Therefore offroad use ...little bit more angle. Highway... vertical.

....although I'm sure a limiting strap would work well against rebound as well... :)

Best I got bud... sorry.

I think he was referring to one being forward of the axle and one being aft. I looked and looked......no answer.

for clarification i am talking about when the shocks are mounted with the tops of both shocks toward the middle with the bottoms closer to the outside of the axle. the inverted "v" shape when looking from the rear of the vehicle.

ok it is cool I thought you where going to eliminate the Propane. I will probably just use a pair of 10 gallon tanks if i go through with it (questionable)
