Put me down for the tube fenders, if you need the money before tech day call me and I can give you a card number, or I'll bring cash on Sat.

As for a head count, Richard said he is planning on coming up, I'm waiting on a call back from John so he is a maybe, and me.

Put me down for tater salad.

Carl, got your PM, I'll bring the 62. Thanks!

Looks like I won't be bringing the truck after all, but we will still be there and I will be more than happy to help with anyone elses projects.

Mike and I will be there. Also, I think Heidi's brother will be joining that day. I'm in for a set of fenders as we discussed Carl, thanks!

We'll bring some drinks and chips.

Hey Guys and Gals,

I will be bringing a guest. I want to make sure it is o.k. with you guys before I bring her.

Below is an email Callie sent me a few weeks ago. She is interested in the Hoosier Cruisers for personal and academic reasons.

Hello,

I'm assuming you are the Ben Miller that is part of TLCA in
Indianapolis. If not, I'm sorry to bother you. If so, I'll explain.

My name is Callie Clare and I'm a first year PhD student in Folklore
at IU and have decided my dissertation is going to be on off-road
trucks/communites. I have friends that are part of the TLCA at home
in Kentucky. Through them, I have met people in Minnesota and been
to events there with them. I have also been to the Black Hills
Cruiser Classic in South Dakota the past three years and met several
people from all of the US and Canada. (I don't have my own truck but
it is a goal. Maybe I can get a grant or something... perks of being
a grad student, right? Ha.) I won't be starting fieldwork for awhile
(perhaps a year or more) but I just thought I would contact you and
ask if you would be willing to be a contact person for me when I do
start fieldwork. Because you are also a grad student made you an
easy person for me to target.

Please let me know if you would be willing to help or if you know of
someone else I should contact.

Thank you so much for reading this,
Callie

She wrote in a reply:

Hey Ben,

Thank you so much for the positive feeback. I am very excited about this project. Feel
free to post my email if you like. In fact, you can even mention my friend Frydaddy from
Kentucky. He assured me he knows some of you Indiana boys. In fact, I have seen a picture
or two of him and his yellow cruiser in your GSMTR photos.

Again thank you so much and any info on events, etc. would be greatly appreciated.

Hope the end of the semester is going well. I'm working on finishing a proposal of sorts
for this particular project.

Callie

By the way, she gave me permission to post her emails.

Callie’s research seems pretty cool and I am sure most of you will find it exciting have our off-roading culture documented in an academic dissertation etc. It is also cool that she is interested in Land Cruisers.

Anyway, I thought the best way for her to get to know us was to bring her by the tech-session.

Let me know if this is cool with you guys.

We will bring snacks.

I personally, look forward to this experience.

Cheers,
Ben

I think that sounds pretty cool. She is already a woman of taste.

my friend Frydaddy from
Kentucky... assured me he knows some of you Indiana boys.

I've got a couple of good Frydaddy stories that we can share around a camp fire someday ;) I remember that he made quite an impression on Heidi at GSMTR '06!

Ben, please tell her that we would be glad to have her come and we will definitely try to make her feel welcome. I am looking forward to this weekend to catch up with all of the HC crew, and it looks like we have some more good tech stuff this year that we can all learn from.

Clint

If we get started telling Frydaddy stories we won't get any work done. After all he is the most famous person to come from Rabbit Hash, KY.

I just talked to John Beasley and he is riding up with me, so for the head count there will be three of us making the trip.

John also has a '78 4 speed tranny and transfer he is looking to sell, if anyone is interested let us know and we will bring it along.

I am trying to plan to be there. If so I will probably be bringing my step son with me as well so I guess I could be put down as two.

I also am parting out an FJ 40 (some members have already requested parts from it) so I will be bringing the parts along. but I still have room to bring other items if need be.

Well tech day is over how was the turnout?

Did you guys get a wheeling schedule worked out?

Turnout was great, we have three new members!

Watch the HC website for the '08 schedule, and watch here for a new sticky on "rolling" tech sessions throughout the year.

Hey guys thanks for all of the help on the rig. It made it a lot easier with people there to guide me through it and help along the way.

It's great to see new members joining the club, but sad to hear that some are moving away.

Carl and Clint let me know what your plans are and I will adjust mine to match.

Thanks again,
Mark
