can you do this? I own a whole e locker diff, but im not using it. I will need to regear it to 488’s but i was curious if it would work? I already have a stand alone harness for it.

If the part numbers are the same for the two applications it will work. If not, there's a reason, and a difference.

Have you laid it beside your open FR diff & looked?

I've hear the FR e-locker 3rd was bought by alot of mini-truck owners to make a selectable full lock rear (I got my NIB FR 3rd in the converted blk 80 b/c previous owner never installed) - so flopping it 180* putting in the RR of a mini seems like doing the opposite would work.

Post some pics of it as a unit, any of us who have had the FR 3rd out or converted an axle shell (you might still need to do the same drill/tap holes, add weld/grind flat some gasket surface, clearance the actuator part of flange) -could tell by pics if it looks right.

Good pics of FR axle shell 3rd member flange modification here if you're not familiar:

You can put it in the axle, but your tie rod won't clear the pinion like it does the high pinion third member. The modifications to the housing are the same, whether low pinion or high.

You can see one in this thread also: Lo rider 40 on 40's

Keep in mind, you'll be losing strength compared to the high pinion gearset. (when driving forward)

Its a 8” gen 1 taco e-locker

Well, i guess i could buy reverse cut gears as i have to anyways, because i need 488’s. Not sure if the e-locker will properly fit inside the high pinion though. Its still in the housing, i can pull it in the next few weeks and take a look, unless someone chimes in saying “nope”.

Yeah, i see that now. Cant use the tacoma 3rd. Guess i will have to see if i can use my factory 3rd

Nope. The housing for the E-locker is completely different than the open diff housing...different bearing on the locker-actuator side, the "shift fork" built into the casting, the hole for the actuator, etc.

If you're re-gearing your existing high pinion 3rd, your best options for adding lockers are the "typical" aftermarket offerings...Lock Right/Aussie/Spartan/Etc, Detroit, ARB, Harrop...

Got ya I lean. I fugured this would be the case. Well, guess it was worth a shot.
