Ive got a 99 trd with a 3" body lift, Whenever I put it in 4 low and go to shift in reverse (5spd) the shifters hit each other and I cant put it in reverse. It was like this when I bought it and I havent torn into it yet. Just wondering what to look for.

74k5,

I made the mistake of putting a bodylift on my old Taco on top of the Fabtech suspension lift. As per the instructions of the bodylift, you're supposed to cut the shifter and weld in a spacer to extend the shifter. After the install, I had the same problem as you. Being a mechanic, I knew someone with a transmission shop and he had some Toyota 5spd shifters laying around. I took a few home, removed the screws that hold the shifter console from the transmission hump between the seats. After this is out, my memory gets blurry, but I think there was something else to remove, probably the boot, then you can swap the shifters. It should shift fine without the extended shifter you currently have. HTH!!

sounds to me like the person who welded the shifter extensions in didn't weld them in straight. I had a body lift in my 98 tacoma (although I HATE body lifts) and with the extended shifters it worked fine. On Tacomas the extensions DO have to be there. The stock shifters will actually get enough tension from the rubber boot on a body lifted truck to ruin the synchros in the transmission.
