TAC Cruise Moab 2007 Pics

Well, Cruise Moab was a blast and the TAC contengent came back in one piece! I thought I would share a few pictures of the trip. As Bob had stated in a previos post on MUD we got two 80s and a 4Runner on a flatbed to head out to Moab. Wasn't easy getting all three rigs loaded. We had to pull 2 bumpers and 2 spare tires to make 'em fit. Took about 4 hours + 1 ticket for trespassing but we got 'em loaded and we got rolling . 17 hours later we were in Moab!

Day one we decided to go on some trails with some local Toyota guys. Should have known what we were getting into when we pulled up to the trail head and all the trucks where buggy style 40s, some had 4 wheel steering...

Regardless, we decided to follow along. We had a blast and navigated several obsticals that created some major pucker factor. The trail was called Rusty Nail. Here are some pictures.

Day 3 and 4 we did the overnight run about 80 miles south of Moab. Ran two trails the first trail of the overnight run had about 35 river crossings. Had rain the night before and it was quite deep at times. Really an easy trail, but fun with the high river. The second day we ran Hotel Rock. Much more technical. The trail leader the day before blew his birf in his 80 on the trail and a 40 flipped a few weeks before we were out there on the pre-run...

Came back to Moab and did Poisen Spider.. Here are some more pics.

two more for fun... This first was the view from my windshield about 80% of the time... Major off camber a ton of the time.. If you haven’t made it to Moab you have to go! The second is about all we could see when driving through colorado in the major snow storm. To top off the end of the trip we got caught in the storm in Colorado due to I-70 being closed down. Nothing is more scary than driving in an 18 wheeler doing 20 mph in the mountains and only seeing 10 feet in front of you and the only thing keeping us in the road are following the tire tracks ahead of us... When we finally got home the loading dock area that we needed to use to unload our rigs was flooded in 2 feet of water. It was a never ending trip of excitement and couldn’t have had a better time with Justin and Bob and the rest of the gang!

We uploaded about 700+ pictures and 4 hours of video to Bobs computer from 6 camera’s so Bob may be adding to the picture thread if he has time.

I thought you guys bought the 80s and 4rnrs so you could drive to the trails in comfort. I thought just the 40s needed to be hauled to the events. Looks like you had a great time, some day, some day . I've got a CDL !

Wish I could have had the time or advance warning about the whoe CM07, but being such a n00b to MUD didn't give me to much advance notice.

Glad to see you had a good time though, will definately be there next year!

If you haven't joined TLCA yet, I strongly suggest you do. First class magazine 6 times a year, and the current one has sign-ups for every TLCA-sanctioned event you'd want to attend.

In the early years at Moab, 40s made up a large majority of the registered vehicles and many were trailered in. Now we're trailering 80s and 4Runners to the event and although I haven't seen the official tally, 40s may have actually been in the minority this year. There wasn't a single 40 on the overnite run, although the rollover of the 40 on the pre-run may have had something to do with that.

Nice! Thanks fer sharin! We had been wantin ta do the rusty nail but ain't shure where it starts. But have done the Golden Spike, so been where ya'll ended up... Did ya'll see Kris Holt?
We are fixin ta head out May 23rd. Back June 1st. Hope to do some wheelin in at least W. part of Colorado on the way back. I really liked 21 Road.
I'll try an git help with fotos. We jus got a gawl dang lectronic picture taker.

I,d like to hear more about your trip. Maybe a newsletter write up or even T.T. Some ? I had are . How much did it cost to hire a semi ? were you the drivers of semi ? Fuel cost 1semi vs. 3 toyotas. what permits were needed .How did everyone get to moab ,in the sleeper? Did you drive straight thru or did you breakit up? I know the peace of mind of not having to worry about driving your trail rig to & from moab would be worth alot. Thanks Kirk

We are considering doing a write up, Bob G. is working on figuring out what we need to do.

To answere a few questions
A very good friend of Justin's owned the semi and came along with us so there was no cost for the semi or trailer other than gas. His fathers company has permits for all 50 states so nothing additional was needed. We saved a ton of money splitting the cost of fuel for one semi compared to paying individually for each vehicle. We each saved a couple of hundred $$ going this route. We had two guys with us that had there CDL air brake license. We drove straight through 17 hours only to stop every 3 hundred miles or so to check the rigs and use the head. 6 of us total were piled into cab of the rig. It was a double sleeper and actually was not that cramped if you can believe that.

We of course have about 1000 stories and had one hell of a time. Be looking for a more detailed write up for our local TAC newsletter or mabey even the Toyota Trails if we are so lucky.
