Anybody ever broke the actuator sleeve in an ADD front end ( http://www.off-road.com/toyota/tech/add/ ) This weekend I may have been a little liberal with the throttle and when the front end came back down, I heard a slow grinding noise and no power to the fronts :whoops: . So after some extensive trouble shooting, :D It seems that the actuator sleeve has a lengthwise crack and whenever torque is applied (ie turning in 4wd or trying to climb) I get a clunk/grind/pop in the front end. In a straight line in 4wd drive no worries until I hit an incline. It seems as though the sleeve is expanding and allowing the axle shaft to spin inside. Anyway, I don''t have an FSM for this rig but its seems prettty straight forward. I'll post pics while I have it apart, but any info on this will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan

P.S. I don't feel too bad because a ford 3\4 ton and a Jeep both broke steering knuckles on that same hill :D

PPS it wasn't the sleeve, it was the ring gear. Now if I could only figure out how to get the darn little gears out of the housing :whoops:

I don't mind the ADD so much for now as this is my DD and I am not sure if the parts will bolt up. Also I don't have the cash for manual hubs right now, which if I understand it correctly, are a necessity for the non ADD conversion. Thanks for the reply and if they do in fact bolt up, I would love to have those parts for down the road a bit.

Well I'm pretty sure I read that you can interchange the add axle with a non add shaft, but don't quote me on that. Also the only diff without the add is that the front drive shaft turns, you may get some noise with the transfercase turning but that's it. Let me check I may have a set of hubs, my stock of parts are back home at my folks house.

I'll find out what I've got, maybe we can hook you up with a new axle and some hubs.

SOunds good, let me know

Kliers, what ride is this on?

Its a 95 T100, 144k 3.4L 5 speed, 4wd, 32 inch swampers, stock gears, stock height. It should be the same system as all 89+ pickups, 4runners, etc.
