Here....mostly.
:flipoff2:

Yeah Yeah Yeah...ok...get beyond on the Knob and Screw jokes.

Ok, so I want to remove the center console cover but can't because the knob at the top of the T-Case shifter is stuck and the leather is attached. Now, I've seen other cruisers that this knob unscrews with ease, but mine is just STUCK on there. To the point that when I twist it, you get the feeling you're going to break something.

Anyway...two questions.

1. Any ideas?....anyone seen this?

2. Is there anything that can break if I keep twisting?

Thanks....even you Junk. :flipoff2:

It will take quite a bit of force to turn it. It is nylon inside and it tends to act like a kingsize lock nut.

In other words, put more force into it when trying to (un)screw.

Are you turning it counter-clockwise? If you break anything it will be the plastic knob not the steel stalk so it will be easy to fix by replacing it with a “RockNob” , take off the kid gloves and see what happens

the "leather" (not real) shifter boot will unclip from the console so if you are having problems you go that route, lift it up high enough to see underneath and you will see how to do it, there are 4 tabs that hold a wire inside the "leather" squeeze the wire together and it will pop out allowi ng you to remove the console without disassembling the t-case shifter

one other thing it may have come looe and the PO or the PO's mechanic may have glued it in place :whoops:

good luck

I have had luck with this method. Easily done and easy not to break anything. Unless there is some reason you need to get your knob and boot off.

Thanks for the replies...and yes RavenTai...righty tighty, lefty loosey. I wasn't worried about snapping the steel shaft ;) I was only concerned about what/how that might connect below.

RockNob?...I'll sell you a rock from my yard (Ancient Lake Boniville Shoreline) for $5. Hell, take them all.

After driving around for a bit today, the metal shaft was Hot enough where it was easy to get it started. But it still is being stubborn as hell. I've maybe been able to take it 4-5 revolutions and it's tighter now than it was 5 minutes ago. Thanks, I"ll keep at it.

I have been thinking about those think they are neat, but I want to pick out my own rockb hate to pay a bunch of money for an ugly rock, anybody every tried to drill sone like quartz or grannite? (common stoen arround here) carbide mason bit?
