Hey, not sure if this group buy will work out, but if so would anyone be interested in doing group installs somewhere? I have never installed T-Case gears and don't have a press, but am mechanically skilled.

Info on the potential group buy:

--- Marlin Crawler group buy under way. High quality gears for 25% off - $600 each.

Marlin Crawler Low Range Gears Group Buy

Land Cruiser Crawler Gears | Marlin Crawler, Inc.

There is a Trail-Gear $299 alternative but most seem nervous about the quality and are willing to pay 2x for Marlin.

Also, I haven't posted much in our Club forum but plan to do more soon. Build thread below on the main forum is below:

I'm ready and willing to point and laugh at this install!

I've got the Marlin gear in FrankenDigger if anyone wants to see how slow it goes with stock-geared difs and 39" Krawlers.

Another Marlin Gear ghost crawl

Looks solid. How was the install? I don't have a press, so was worried about both removing the gears without screwing up the ones that stay puy and pressing on the new ones.

I'm guessing it isn't as easy as the Marlin instructions make it sound...

But this would allow me to keep stock gears for the road and get closer to crawler gears in Low Range.

Fingers crossed the group buy goes through. Also interested to see how Stock low range gearing works with the 37s next weekend.

I didn't do it. @AuburnFJsexy did before I bought it.

Now... I DO have a transfer case sitting in my shop floor if you want to install it before dropping yours. xfer is out of Bertha, a 92, but they are the same minus the viscous coupler. I doubt you do, but it is an option...

Also, I know folks with presses. And would be more than willing to let us in to use them. It would be a good "lunch break" anyway. Heck, depending on how many buy in... We could prolly use his shop AND lift if it's just one.

Sounds good. Let's see if we can get a few other AL buyers interested and do 2-3 at once. A lift sounds luxurious.

I'm not sure we have 2-3 alabama folks anymore IN an 80-series that wheels. LOL.

I know Rick with the red 80 is also coming to MK. There are others - we just have to pull them out of the shadows (or mall parking lots).

Nice meeting you and Rick at MK this past weekend!
SICK cruiser! You've done great!
either of you on FB?

Thanks. Sorry you broke the front diff. My wife is the FB expert.

We're looking forward to Southern Cruiser Crawl at Superlift ORV in October. Hope many of you are going.

I went ahead and bought a new set of Marlin Low Range Crawler Gears while they are on a decent sale.

Anyone have a press, a large bearing splitter (6-9" or more I think), and preferably a shop we could use? Would love to have another set of hands or two is anyone is up for it (or ideally knock out 2 at once if anyone else is looking to do this mod).

Gears should be here next week. Anyone have any ideas?

I only have the shop. But none of those tools. ugh.

I think I saw you in Riverchase last week!

Yep, I was 3 cars behind you. Shop is good. Know of anyone with a press and bearing splitter that we could borrow. HF 20 ton press is $199 and splitter is $100+. Would probably be cheaper to pay someone to install if we can't borrow the tools.

The full-time case is a sealed unit. Fairly easy to drop out. I think six 17mm bolts. I also have a spare case sitting on the shop floor if you want it as a "send to shop for install". But it came from a 92 so it does not have the Viscous Coupler. Most folks remove that anyway though. Totally up to you. You could send that out next week, it get set up, then install here at the shop one night.
I can ask J over at Gear Grinders if he's interested in the gear install. I doubt it though. He tries to stay away from that kind of work. But, work is work.

Gear Grinders says they can do the gear setup. So call him and get the info.
Again, this case can be used if you have interest in it as a core.

Got it. I'll call and see how much. Seems easy to pull the case - so I'll probably just pull, install, and plug mine back in. Just need to find a press and beating splitter - maybe I'll have some luck with Craigslist or FB.

Haven't arrived yet, so there is still time.

Finished this install over the weekend. Was honestly more time consuming than I had expected and got Keith Bailey at Off Road Connection in Fultondale to do the tough press work after my HF 12-ton press setup failed to be big enough.

All the details are in the build thread below if anyone is interested:
