Does the syn oil need to be changed more often than 7500 mi if you drive a lot on dusty gravel roads?

My TRD air filter is about a year old and it doesn't show much of any build up if dirt.
Either I have not driven on many dirty roads or all the crap just flows through the TRD filter :-\

What about salt?
They use tons of salt on the roads to the point that you can tast the salt when the snow has melted and the roads are dry. The salt dust flows into the cab if you have the setting of outside air for the heating system.
Its a fine salt after all the cars and truck drive on it.
What effect does the salt have on the inside of the motor?

I would get a UOA and see if there is any problem at 7500 and then you will know for sure. That and switch to a nice oem paper filter.

They use salt (at least it tasts like salt) and some kind of spray on the bridges.

What ever the truff is it made the ARB and Slee Sliders rust a bit.

salt, eh?
would that mean pickled pistons?

I remember hearing about a geologist who drove into a dust storm out west. He ignored the warnings from locals because he knew the type of dust wasn't hard enough to damage the metal engine parts. It later sprinkled, and the wet dust cooked into an acidic coating on his car, damaging the paint where it was warm on the hood.

I don't think salt is hard enough to damage the pistons, and doubt dust fine enough to pass the filter would clog anything. Not much moisture gets in there to start corrosion, except maybe the exhaust. Gasoline is oily enough to rinse and coat much of the engine insides. I would agree with more frequent oil changes in dusty environments.

Pray tell where out west?[/quote]
The details escaped me many years ago. Sounds like something my brother Doug might've told me.

Hmm. Must be lore from one of the other brothers - the Eastern bro's...snicker....
