Can someone who has an SWR meter and is going to the Fall Gathering kindly bring it with them. I need help setting up my Firestik. I don't have a clue on how to do it. Thx.

I'll try and get my Dad's. One thing I can say is people in this club need to get a clue on how to install CBs. The runs I've been on you have everything from a scream to a whisper and most are just silent.

Do you have an 18ft coax from the CB to the stick?

My new CB install is a disaster. There, I said it.

I also don't have the bandwidth to go through the troubleshooting that I've seen on the boards. Does anyone know a person I can throw a pile of money at and they'll just make it work?

That's a bad thing? (no wonder no one can hear me)

Not sure what you are referring to but you should have an 18ft cable. It ensures that the CB and antenna are in phase.

Not to hard to get things right.

Good CB
noise suppression on 12v supply
18ft cable
good ground for antenna
Tune antenna with SWR

that gave me a two mile range and I don't have a good ground plane as the antenna is on my tire carrier and barely above my roof line.

No offense Lane but I could get better range with a couple of Cambell soup cans and a piece of string.

But this goes for other runs I've been on. Hell, at the VT outing I had to relay between the leader and gunner and they were the Toyota trail team .

I think you just volunteered to do a CB workshop!

18ft? That seems kinda long. I'm just going from the cab to the outside.

So I guess my temp install and magnet mount antenna aren't going to cut it?

I got the SWR meter and anyone can use it if they like.

The problem I have is by the time I turn down the squelch and turn up the volume to hear people I also hear everyone else. While in VT I was answering the tail gunner and then someone in another group answered me which I thought was the gunner and things got real confusing.

I'm no expert on mobile CBs by any means but I'm happy to convey what I've read and how my setup is installed if people think it will help with there setups.

Wrench, not sure what is confusing in my post as to why you want to use an 18ft cable? But by all means do what you want.

Put each group on the same parcel on different channels. Problem solved. What else do you need help with? :flipoff2:
