A few weeks ago I took my FJ out to Demello Offroad In Riverside Ca. He wanted to keep it a few weeks to develop a swing out bumper

Here are some pics of the progress

Jason has changed the corner pieces , so the wrap under to the frame . There will also be some interior interlocking webbed gussets for strength

He has done something different with the center section too.
Not sure yet, what the difference is, but the lines are different

I'm liking the pivot section . It just has a real beefy look to it. Strength shouldn't be a problem

They will also build some modular pieces to add to the bumper for cans, Rotopax, Hi lifts etc
if you look at the pivot corner, you can see some sharpie marks for cut outs on the corner . He will also add dimple die holes too, probably not on the version that will be on my truck at the Summit. It needs to go to laser. No time for all that right now

A one-off bumper , pretty

Thanks
Actually, Jason will take this into production. Mine won't be the production version yet, at some point, after all the bugs are worked out, it will get exchanged for the final version .

Always at the top Don!

Will the new bumper create a better overhang over stock?
Thanks Phil
I think you are asking about whether the new bumper will have a better departure angle? Probably not. The limiting factor on the FJC is actually the factory cross member. You would have to cut that out in order to increase the departure angle. This does get done on some aftermarket bumpers, but since many FJ's are still under factory warranty, probably not a good idea, to bring one to market. This will however, take the weight off the door. Raise the tire enough to fit 35" plus tire and have an assortment of accessory mounts for cans, hi-lifts etc. It definitely won't decrease departure angle though

It also looks as if he's ignoring the fact some of us have backup cameras in that center wheel hub...

As for departure, my FJ drags the tailpipe then mud flaps then trailer hitch, in some order or other, depending on what it was I just went over. Since this bumper looks like the hitch is no longer the lowest part ... I would worry about my time spent repainting the add-on.

The hitch will remain the lowest part. The wrap around the corners are just covering what hangs down there anyway. The camera will be added and functional. Some of these details don't get worked out until the big stuff is done . We have discussed all of this, but time was running out and it needed to be complete enough to show what it will look like. I will get more details pics after the install

Any updates?
Sorry, just catching up from our Colorado Trip
Again this needs to be turned into a production version, but the completed prototype is installed and working

Its hot in Phoenix. The Rotopax are not liking it. 116f when this pic was taken

Something different for the center section. Jason decided to make the areas where the sensors straight down, instead of the angle they had.

He also wrapped the corners farther down. It just gives it a more complete look and will add strength too

The license plate with have the screws that have LED's in them. plus the camera will be mounted to the center section. We will be sourcing the plugs to make an extension camera harness

What's your source on the led screws? Finally got pulled over for not having a light on my plate, almost 6 years in. Only reason I don't have anything is that I've had a hard time finding anything that's not total junk.

That's looks like what he was describing . Thanks for the link I suppose you just need to take a chance and get a set. I probably will order a set . I just need to find a set in black

I have black set I used for my M1102 trailer tag light as well. So far they're holding up good. Got them from Amazon as well.
