Try a stub axle spindle for a trailer. Get the correct "inner and outer" bearings and seal and fit the races into a piece of steel tubing. I have not actually done this yet, but I plan to. The 1750 pound rated spindles go for about 20 bux and then there would be the cost of the bearings and the stock steel for the bearing housing/swingout take off. The set up i am considering will use a 1 3/8" inner bearing and a 1 1/16" outer. I will source the bearings at Napa and use them to size my bearing housing stock. The spindle OA length is 8" so 4" in my bumper, and 4"above. For the amount of research, time, and labor involved, it may be worth the cost of the ready-made; my time is cheaper for me than convenience.
