Why didn't the airbags deploy?
camry1.webp

You didn't stop fast enough,
pretty common on high side hits that goes over the frame rail. You hit the core support upper and light and cooling and all of the other soft bits rather than the unibody rails that the sensors are mounted too.

Hope you are ok

You have to think about airbags purely in terms of deceleration. You have to be going in excess of 18mph and stop with the appropriate amount of force the bags will not deploy. its not about how hard you hit with airbag sensors it is purely on deceleration.
Dave
PS, this is purely from my experience fixing wrecked cars in the last ten years and in no way shall be construed as anything but my uneducated rambling.

My wife thinks she was going between 20 and 30mph. She doesn't think she even hit the brakes. Went under a Ranger bumper.

My thoughts exactly Jim....We get a pretty good deal on new Toyotas since my father in law works at the Georgetown plant though.
And no she wasn't on the phone.

Marty...glad to her your wife was alright. Where did this happen?

Likely not a total, 8-10k depending on parts usage.
Glad she is OK but not surprised at all at no air bag deployment.

They are at about $11k in damage, parts are ordered and should be ready to go by the end of next week. The rental Chevy equinox is a POS.

Pete, happened on Ridge this past Thursday between Beaver and that other road.

Ridge Road is such a dangerous place, add in all those pot holes and people not paying attention...it turns dangerous real fast.

"not paying attn" Apparently this is how you rear end the person in front of you.

I got the Camry back on Monday, just under $11k in damage. Lots of stuff replaced, drives like new imo, paint work looks good. I think it was over $7K just to the Toyota dealership for parts.

Yes...I saw it when I drove past the other day and it looks like the day it drove off the lot! Good to see the Equinox out of there!

Man that Equinox was the biggest pos and it was a 2010.

Very interesting. I am not a fan at all. But I have heard people love them.

There are a couple of those (Equinox) in the fleet where my brother works. I know he likes to use them when he's sent on the road. They've been good vehicles for the company with very few issues over the years. Marty must have gotten the well beaten "rental special" vs. what most folks buy and drive. :meh:

Glad to hear the Camry is back in good shape again.

Nick

It had more creaks and rattles than my 4runner with 90k miles on it.
