Swaybar Rusted Off....

Hey guys my swaybar mount on front passenger side rusted off and fell off the frame.

I have disconnected the swaybar and am trying to remove it because it was just clunking away down there.

anyways everything is disconnected but I cannot slide the bar out because of the awkward shape.

how do I get this out from under my truck.

Make sure that tacoma is new, or from a southern state or else same problem.

So I had the same thing happen to me last year due to the AC box dumping condensation on that frame mounted bracket for the last 19 years.

What I did was used as pneumatic cutoff wheel to remove the bracket that was still attached to the sway bar. Then I bought an piece of 1/8“ thick x 1.5” angle iron from Home Depot and a piece of flat1/8 stock to form gussets on each end of the about 4” piece of angle Iron I cut. I welded the gussets onto the end of this piece to strengthen the angle iron. I purchased a new sway bar bushing and bracket. It will take a good bit of time grinding the remnants of the rusty bracket off the frame so you can clamp up the replacement I just described. You need to clamp up the bracket to the frame so you can mark the holes to attach the new bushing clamp. Once you’ve done this, then clamp the assembly to the frame with the bushing on the sway bar holding the assembly in place for welding. I was able to weld the new bracket on from leaning in over the fender so the weld didn’t splatter on me. I didn’t have any gas for my mig welder so just used flux core wire. It’s not the prettiest but did the job. If you have and questions just let me know.

How did you temporarily remove the swaybar. I’ve already built a bracket out of 1/4 inch steel I just need to slide the bar out so I can drive it to the shop either out clunking banging and tearing a cv axle

Yeah I’d buy a brand new one..... just not sure if I want to do that because I like the size of my cruiser....

although I like the look of the new tacos and I’d like a slightly easier fuel bill....

I never removed it. It was hitting the torsion bar but doing no damage. Removing it would be major pain and again not needed.

Well I ****ed up then. Because I’ve been trying to remove it. I still have the rusted bracket holding onto it and impact guns won’t break the bolts loose.

I wanted to slide it off so I could grind the bracket off.Sand all rust off and repaint it black and smooth out eyelets the meet the rubber bushings because they are so pitted they eat bushings.

I would have done the same if I could have removed the drivers side of which is damn rusty as well!! Where are you located?

I have a rust free 100 and I still had issues getting my front swaybar off. The AC drips on the passenger side bracket which seizes the bolts. I ended up welding on a new nut and buying new bolts.

I would like to take it off so I can do the work.
but it appears taking the swaybar off requires removing the torsion bars.....

I had to remove it because I had to drill out a broken bolt, you shouldn't need to unless you can't get the bolts out.

the bolts all snapped and are rusted in place.

I have the old mount still attached to the sway bar.

the old chunk won’t impact off.

I recall that it will slide out with out removing torsion bars, just keep working all the angles. I dont remember the steps I took, but I replaced mine with out removing TB's. Try raising the front end on jack stands to give more room.
