I decided to replace the 4 brake hoses which I assume are 20+ year old hoses (that showed no signs of cracking) with new OEM ones just for PM.

and wow, the brake pedal feels like a sports car compared to the mush it was previously.

I had already replaced the rotors, calipers, pads, and fluid a couple of months ago and the brake feel was still mushy.

Makes me much happier driving it now (and i was already happy driving the 4.7).

anyways, it really only takes 10-20 minutes per caliper. I had a really bad flare on one of the hard lines so it took me hours to get it to thread into the union...if you don't have this issue it's a 0.5 banana job.

Am I seeing it right that there are 2 brake lines on each side in the back? Are they 2 of the same part on each side?

There are actually four. Two near the calipers, and two up where the main hard lines come out near the axle. Each pair is the same part number.

Earlier this year I replaced my brake s-hard lines and soft lines with Toyota oem ones.

I was on a trip to Baja and one of my buddies broke a hard line on his FJ while on a dirt trail. It was an ordeal to drive out of the trail, find an auto parts store that had the tools/materials to build a hard line, and build it on a dirt road next to the auto parts store.

So, I decided to replace my hardlines which cost like $4 each at partsouq.com and had my Indy shop do the labor for $213 for all brake lines at the caliper including flushing the brake fluid.

I kept all the old parts as spares since they weren’t broken yet but are 21 years old (2003 GX470).

  • 9094702F23/9094702F24; rear brake rubber lines; one per caliper. Two lines total.
  • Rear center brake lines. Got extended length 17” SS brake lines from Metal Tech 4x4 to deal with my long travel rear suspension. Need two total.
  • Overall, 8 brake lines (2 hard lines; 6 soft lines).
