Well I'm a bit late to the posting here, as we've already got this mostly done. I'll keep editing this first post with parts lists and stuff like that for anyone else who wants to give it a try.

Background: I have a donor 1PZ from my 77 series that I've had in Canada since 2006. Lots done to it, performance and maintenance wise, such as turbo, BEBS etc, R151 manual

The LJ78 is a customer's truck who purchased the PZ off me.

The ask was for an automatic, 1PZ in the LJ78 with AC delete.

Parts list (to be edited as we go)

- A440 automatic, with Diesel bell housing and Torque converter
- HZ automatic flywheel and pressure plate
- automatic kickdown assembly off 1HDT
- thermowax delete
- exhaust dump
- power steering hard lines off of a HZ7* series

List of issues:

- A343 bell housing won't mate to A440
- Used split T case from the LJ
- Used original cross member
- very little clearance between front of engine and radiator area as the LJ has a lengthy push back of the radiator towards the stock 2LT, so Electric can is probably a must. We are currently modifying the factory 2L Prado radiator to suit: removing the side brackets.
- Vacuum pump bolts too close to radiator
- radiator hose exits on bottom at the worng side using LJ radiator. Using a HZ style radiator won't work as the rad cap is too tall. We will likely have to add a pressure tank to use the factory LJ radiator. Have some from Volkswagen that will be up to the task I think.
- AC delete is almost a requirement as the rad has to push forward so far.
- intercooler should still be fine
- suspension lift required to clear oil pan
- Prado steering stabilizer will require to be relocated.
- wiring harness from HZ with automatic transmission will be used.

Now the photos.

More photos.

Engine bay of the 77 is almost exactly 6" longer than the 78.

A440 is about 1/2” longer overall than the A343 combo.
