Can anyone tell me why my 1998 4.2 deisel landcruiser auto , drops from "N" to "L" about 25mins after i begin my journey, when it has a full load on board. If i empty the car, leave the engine running for about 10 mins, it will return to "N" but again will drop to "L" when loaded. The guys at the toyota garage in canterbury kent said it was the sensors but how can all four go at once? I know im a only a lady that rides horses and no mechanic but it seems to me like something is leaking somewhere and it cant keep the hydraulic pressure high enough for long. I rather suspect my local garage was going to change all the sensors in the hope to cure it, but very much at my expense!!!!!! can anyone help?

Someone in the appropriate Tech forum might be able to. What's 'N' and 'L' stand for? Neutral and... Low? What are you doing in Neutral 25 minutes into your journey? See, all this confusion might be avoided if you were in the right forum, the people who frequent it would know what you're talking about. Take a look at the forum list and see if you can't find a more appropriate place for this.

I thought we are talking about HDJ-80 .. ? with H442 tranny . ? or HZJ-80 with 440 tranny . ?

or we are talking about the L and N position of the transfer case lever . ?

Re my suspension prob. it is the low normal or high suspension settings that show on my dash. It wont stay in normal and drops to low after about 20 mins into my journey when fully loaded only. thanks

I forgot to add it is a landcruiser amazon. I use it to tow kids and horses to horse shows. I run a reg charity for kids in england. It would be very nice if someone can help me save alot of money by helping me to find the cause of my cars problem. We are lost without it. Thanks
