I'm looking for advice. I have tried searching on the forms history for a similar experience but I didn't see a similar problem posted. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Here is what happened... I pushed the button that opens the slide open sunroof, nothing happened. I have previously experienced problem and discovered with more force applied to the button the sunroof will open. So I applied more force and the sunroof opened... but this time I applied too much force and the sunroof button/switch pushed up into the housing (I later discovered the excessive force of pushing the button had unclipped one of the 4 plastic tabs that hold the sunroof switch in place). But the sunroof did open as normal.

When I pressed the button to close the sunroof nothing happened. I have experienced this before as well and with above average pressure to the close button the sunroof would close. So I took the upper plastic sunroof/reading lamp housing off as to see why the switch had come loose, and repositioned it into its proper position and to apply more force to the close position. But no matter how hard I push the close position nothing happened, no noises, or any indication that the sunroof motor was trying to do anything. So I pushed the open button and the sunroof opened fully. But still nothing happens when I push the close button.

Im assuming its the sunroof switch that has failed, but before I buy a new switch ($110 from the dealer) is there a way I can verify it is not a bigger problem? FYI, it is a 2000 LC. Thanks!

Sounds like your cables finally seized up. Mine got sluggish and needed help before finally crapping out on me, it would close halfway and the pinch protection would activate and would open back up again; I had to coax it along then finally one day all of a sudden it wouldn't budge at all. When I pulled the headliner apart to get at it, he switch/motor were fine, but the cables and cable guide were toast.

Do you hear any clicking when you press the button? Any whirrs or buzzing?

Let us know,

Rich

Rich, there were no unusual noises when it opened, and there are no noises when push the switch to close it. Tomorrow I'm going to buy a multi meter and test the switch. I'll report what I find.

Download the 2004 manual from the FAQ and look in the Body Electric section, pages BE-105 thru BE-108. You should be able to diagnose the problem if it is the switch.
